@fimm - I'll likely have a few questions on practicalities and etiquette, so I'll bear that in mind, thanks.

Did what I'm calling a "functional triathlon" today - cycled 20 km doing some errands, went for a 2000 m swim, dropped bike off for a service and then <strike>ran</strike> <strike>jogged</strike> shambled 6 km home.

All far, far, slower than I would hope to do an actual triathlon, but hopefully my body will start to get used to the idea that different forms of exercise can happen in a single day.

In common with others of this parish, I have a tendency to throw myself off boats.

Yet, sea kayaking also seems interesting - I've even gone so far as to find a local course, but not so far as booking it!

@Frenchy oh. I'd put you down for a "half Ironman" i.e. 1900m swim, 56 mile bike, 13 mile run... a Sprint is indeed half a Standard, but yes, it can sound like a bit of a misnomer.

I think I've only done Tranent once. Happy to offer advice if you'd like any...

There's an organised annual Banff Bay Swim (weather depending, of course - doesn't seem to have actually happened since 2017).

I did it a few times about 15 years ago. One guy used to get someone in one of the boats carry his fags, so he could have a smoke halfway across. I preferred to get across and out of the water as soon as possible.

Cold. So bloody cold.

In my defence, "sprint" seems even less appropriate as a description of the distances involved than "half".

@paddyirish, Sounds good, so start at the back and stay at the back. That would suit my swimming style well.

@gembo, risk of sunburn should be minimal at 8PM tomorrow night. I don't think I'm taking it seriously enough to pre-clip my shoes, I'll have a kayaking wetsuit on anyway.

Transition from water to bike is a faff. The pros seem to have their shoes clipped into the pedals already.
