Could have done with a sticker this morning as the nerd in dark blue scruffy Jaguar decided to cut into the cycle lane between Dick Vet and Meadows toilet block; managed to severely thump his left hand wing top twice; then he backed off!
Suppose it would seem a little strange to a 'driver' to 'see' a black gloved hand rise up onto your wing to deliver retribution, while a little yellow flag was waving in your left hand passenger window!
When we are invisible we can cross boundaries where others fear to tread!
The sticker would have been there for all to see if we had them!

you can get them cut with a break in the back for easy peeling, no good with full length gloves but fingerless should be fine.. IF you were going to do such a thing.

If you had something small, thin, flexible and magnetic it could conceivably fit in a guitar pick dispenser for quickly thumbing out and planting, though anything that size would have to be very recogniseable to be spotted from anything further away than too close.

I was thinking about this more. A problem would be to remove the sticker - with mitts on - from its backing. It either needs some sort of dispenser system like you get with those sticky coloured page tabs, or some sort of large tab on the backing to grab a hold of with your teeth while you pull off the sticker.

One could say "every time you pass a cyclist that close, god stickers you"

Let's make little stickers that warn other road users that this one is dangerous so others can keep their distance.

That's kind of what RagingBike was for. I often thought about trawling every incident report and extracting the vehicle registration numbers. But a sticker would be immediately recognisable, not that I would endorse such an activity.

I would certainly buy a pack of 50 of these for use; especially if they had the same glue and paper base as the price labels used in shops eg it takes ages to pick them off and leaves a scummy mark as well!
I could have used a dozen of them last week easily!
They would look good on all forms of steed that transgress... buses, taxis, bikes, cars, horse saddles etc!

Today on lauriston pace heading toward tollcross outside the eye hospital I was in the right hand lane waiting at red lights inna asl, everything hunky dory. Im going right onto lady lawson next and so i cross the junction on the extreme right of the lane. good driving no? I thought so untill I found there was a lady trying to overtake me across junction in the wrong lane she eventually gets the right idea and undertakes as i make to turn right. surprise suprise her lights are red.

Putting my mouth where my heart is i rode off down to 'converse' with said lady. when i pulled alongside I found this impossible because the lady was already having a conversation loudly on her handsfree set. I showed her my arse and u-turned.

Anyway, big deal. But it did give me an idea. lets make little stickers that warn other road users that this one is dangerous so other can keep their distance, little tap on the boot as they sit at the lights...

Actually ive been thinking about stickers for a while @chdot if you get the QR code printed onto stickers ill take a couple for my crank arms :)

Double dose of almost being taken off my bike in the rain by SMIDSY this morning. I was in bright blue Gore jacket with reflective piping front and rear and had front and 2 rear lights to announce my presence.

First attempt was by car trying to turn right out of Yeaman Place onto Dundee Street eastbound. I was going westbound on Dundee. 2 cars pull out ahead of me as I approach Dundee Street to make the left turn, all fair and good. Third car follows them out to make the right turn without stopping at the give way line and - quite obviously - looking. Caused me to swerve wildly around his nose and almost into the oncoming traffic. My very loud profanity elicited the usual sheepish smidsy wave of the hand on the steering wheel.

Second attempt was less than 50m from the entrance to the office car park - here's me thinking I was nearly home and (not literally) dry. Roundabout at intersection of South Gyle Broadway and South Gyle Crescent. I was coming round roundabout on inside lane to make a left onto SG Crescent. Car waiting on SG Broadway to make same maneouvre. Driver quite obviously clocks me and decides there's time and room to make his turn. Which there isn't. Would have stopped at giving him the finger if it wasn't for the fact he fails to accelerate once he has made his move and keeps it under 10mph - me doing roughly double his speed and despite having the brakes down full comes within a whisker of running into the back of him. In fact got further forward than his projecting tow-bar and was worried that as he drifted across me it was going to hit my wheel side-on and tip me off the bike. Somehow narrowly squeezed past the bar and - still deccellerating in the wet - again uttered the loudest profanity I could muster as I cruised past on the inside - again starting with the 6th letter of the alphabet. And once again got that stupid, sheepish, guilty wave off the top of the steering wheel. I was itching for them to pull in to my office car park so I could give them a lecture about stopping distances in the rain and if they were that desperate and in a rusgh to make the turn, they should have been desperate and in a rush enough to find the accelerator.

In both cases, there was no excuse for either driver not to see me - both had clear lines of sight and I was a clearly visible object. The first driver obviously just didn't look and did what all too many drivers do when they get to a T junction and there's a give way line - they just put their nose over it and then think about stopping, checking if their exit is clear and then making a move. The second driver quite obviously saw me but decided that cyclist = gap (even though it was an empty roundabout apart from me)

If I had been in a car, I wouldn't have been able to stop or maneouver in time and would have run into either vehicle. And in both cases, if I'd been a car, would they have pulled out? I doubt it.

I'm still raging 5 hours later.

On the West Approach Road yesterday morning, just after turning off Lothian Road - hoot, hoot, hoot from the automobile behind. I'm turning right into Canning Street so in the outside lane. Automobile heaves to on my left. Gentleman winds down window and shouts;

'You're in the middle of the road!'

I reply 'Yes, that's right - the middle of the road. Is there a problem?'

I reply 'Yes, that's right...'

Hi, yep its always bad when that happens,I used to live shieldhill and was always looking forward to that climb........mot !Used to leave grangemouth, along to whats now the football stadium,up past the fire station into lauriston, up to hallglen then up to the canal, along until the path leavs and goes through the houses. back onto the glen brae and slog up! On the left going up is a wee trail that used to make it more interesting. Dont worry,as the weather now gets worse am sure you can look forward to seeing cars stuffed into the fields at the top, caught out by ice on the top bend !
take it easy out there !

Had to happen eventually I suppose, after managing months without it...
Tonight I was slogging up the hill from Falkirk towards Shieldhill when one of the cars coming up behind (turned out to be a small silver ford hatchback) started tooting his horn and then when passing shouted something out the open passenger window, sounded like "get off the road" though it's hard to tell. Then the delightful individual gesticulated enthusiastically (though I couldn't actually see what his particular choice of signal was.) Really can spoil an otherwise nice journey when you meet idiots with no manners/education/commonsense.

Sigh... at least he didn't throw anything I suppose :-(
