Likewise I enjoyed here extended display over Ayr/Prestwick.

Disappointed to realise she almost passed overhead where we are in Keswick. But the stunning pictures already on sale almost make up for it.

Since the Vulcan was coming over Dalkeith, I got a bit of height and watched from the bridge where the old A68 goes over the new bit of A68. About a hundred other people all had the same idea.

Nice write up WC. I went out and sat on the top of the garden wall for half an hour. I heard it but I think it passed to the south of Mussy and in front of the sun. Didn't know about the return pass until too late.

I went to Leuchars Air Show a few times. Once, with my grandad who had served in North Africa with the RAF, we got into the VIP enclosure. I liked the Saab Draken best - it had to have trays under it to catch the leaking fuel but it looked amazing.

I saw it! Purely by chance.

I was cycling down the Hawthornvale path on NEPN yesterday afternoon, just past the Edinburgh Sculpture Worshop when I heard, then saw the Vulcan flying past Leith docks ahead at low speed.

Amazing moment of serendipity. No time to take a snap, of course.

Only the second time I've seen one in flight: the first was in 1982, during the Falklands War, one flew right over our house and we ran outside to see it. Incredible noise!

(From my Blipfoto post of the day)

I honestly can't remember how old I was, but I'd seen an advert on the telly for Leuchars Airshow. I had no idea where Leuchars was, all I knew was I wanted to go. But it wasn't to be, and it was out from my mind. One weekend sometime in the future we had a family trip down to Dundee for my dad to meet someone on business. It was a little dull being bundled into the car, but hey, it was a weekend doing something a bit different.

After my dad had met the guy we'd travelled to see we happened upon a big queue of traffic. I'm not sure I'd even noticed us crossing the Tay, but then I saw the signs. Bloody duplicitous parents had only gone and sprung a surprise airshow trip into the mix.

As we walked in the gates the Vulcan was just lumbering into the air. I've loved it ever since, one of my absolute favourites. And having missed its last tour I was determined that with this weekend being its last (probably) ever I'd see her airborne again. We went for a walk east of Innerleithen, taking to the hills, finding what seemed a good vantage point entirely to our own about half an hour before she was due.

Patient.

Not so patient.

Around the ETA there was a low rumble of a distant plane on the other side of the hill from us. "They've flown further east, gah!" I thought. We gave it five more minutes before giving up. By the timings she should be in Carlisle by now, and neither of us had a working phone to check the Twitter feed.

Clumping down in more than a little disappointment the sound suddenly arrived, and the hulking mass was there, very slowly, deliberately, picking her way south. The fact it was virtually directly over where we had been sitting ten minutes previously was a little galling, but to see her was the aim, and the joy.

For a moment I was that wee lad again, and that was just grand.

After East Fortune, it did an unscheduled trip over Edinburgh Airport and then back to Dalkeith before heading South.

Was out near Penicuik and about to give up looking for it and head in for the rugby when I finally caught a sight of it.

May of had a better view if I'd have stayed at home but pleased to get a glimpse.

Sadly I am missing this as at work today, there is great documentary on its last mission to the Falkland's on line when it was already set for decommission, it had to be be refuelled in the air several times, in the documentary it shows how they had to find an obsolete spare part for fueling and found it in the mess being used as an ashtray. For a plane that had parts diffculties over 30 years ago they have done a good job of even getting flying for a short few years.

Sadly to be retired at the end of 2015, the last flying Vulcan will have its last northern foray tomorrow. Route includes East Fortune and Dalkeith before turning for Carlisle. Apparently 75 minutes after leaving Notts (not sure what time that will be).

Links to route here: http://www.vulcantothesky.org/news/710/82/Latest-on-National-Tour.html

There's a Twitter account too. We were planning an East Lothian walk anyway, so that's fortuitous, figured some others might want to ride out to see it.
