@sweb67: you didn't happen to take a photo, perchance? As I mentioned in the video near the car wash section, this route is going to struggle with illegal use of the track by drivers.

The more evidence we can gather, the more likely we are to be able to force local councillors/GCC/police to do something about it.

@fimm: it is a little narrow, but we'd struggle to ask for more width given the current low number of cyclists in Glasgow. I could have overtaken at the end, but was manoeuvring for an appropriate shot on the camera!

Seems like a lot of infrastructure for £1.25m compared to some recent Edinburgh initiatives.

(Need kaputnik to give us some per-metre breakdown comparisons)

Looks very promising. Can I ask how long it took from planning/consultation to final build?

I rode this yesterday after watching Darkerside's video. It is surprising good. I was actually amazed they had put foot rests in at the major junctions. Sadly last nights ride was spoiled by the police pulling over a driver into the lane at one point. I have used the section that starts the video in the opposite direction and on Friday there were two cars dropping off in the lane so not all great so far!

It is a bit narrow - you can see that when Darkerside is with the group at the beginning and again when he catches up with the adult and child at the end. But I guess that it will be big enough to start with and if it gets too full then things will have changed so much that making more space will be easier!

My travelling consultancy rates are very reasonable...

(Although possibly not available in the immediate future as we're moving house on the 06 Nov!)

I'm reserving judgement on the drainage, as some stuff may still be bedding in (if that's a thing), plus everything is clogged with fallen leaves, plus it had just raining heavily. We'll see.

I'm going to email GCC and ask if they did something different to design this route. If so, they need to keep doing it!

Need to start with Darkerside doing a review of the new Meadows - Innocent job.

From link -

"There are a couple of drainage issues, including the particularly unfortunate example below that affects pedestrians using the crossing as well."

There's a "ponding" thread on here with examples due to 'inattention' by contractors more often than design problems (though the new crossing on Buccleuch Street needed an extra drain installed).

Just been reading (and watching) Rob's review of the South West City Way in Glasgow. http://www.darkerside.org/2015/10/south-west-city-way-is-great-safe-segregated-infrastructure/

Despite a few flaws, it looks like GCC have managed to built a decent bit of segregated infrastructure, with clear cycle priority over sideroads, and not winding along back streets away from the desire line.

Perhaps it is time for some friendly rivalry between CEC & GCC, to see who can build the best cycle infrastructure! (We can but hope).
