I missed the consultation last week - too busy. Wasn't it the follow up to the consultation evenings? I went to the Musselburgh one and it was interesting to see how many others had already highlighted issues I raised - the ideas were written all over the maps on the tables. It would have been nice to have heard whether anything we said made it into their summary.

That's disappointing. I went to the public consultation on the segregated route last week and they gave the impression of separate cycletracks with priority, along the A199, not simply a redetermination of the footway.

Of course, the timing may be coincidental, and the redetermination already in progress as they plan a proper segregated route - one can only hope!

+1 to cyclingmollie. Incidentally there is a very pleasant route on minor roads passing to the south of the Tyne next to Hailes Castle. The main danger is that the road is so narrow that you may need to get on to the verge to let cars past.

If they resurface, widen and maintain the pavement it might be an improvement over what is at present one of the nastiest roads to cycle in the Lothians. If not it will be just as bad as the shared-use footpath which already exists towards Dunbar from East Linton - a glass-strewn horror.
The roundabouts at the Haddington end can be avoided by joining the A199 at the Abbeymill Farm Junction.
And I agree with you about the side-road give-ways. On the segregated path past Thorntonloch by the side of the A1 cyclists have to give-way at every side road, farm road and house entrance. Rubbish.

"

East Lothian Council has a coalition Labour /Conservative /Independent Administration.

"

http://www.eastlothian.gov.uk/info/772/politicians_elections_and_democracy/1469/your_council

That might change in 2017, but probably won't make any difference.

East Lothian now has an SNP MP, but the SNP is not overwhelmingly 'cycle friendly'.

On closer reading, the footpaths around the Haddington roundabouts (the "Abbotsview Interchange") are not included in the order, so presumably at that point you enter the traffic stream at its most dangerous point or dismount and walk around the footpaths. Nice one.

I got a little bit excited when I saw a notice in the local rag last week about a traffic order for a cycleway between Haddington and East Linton.

The online notice is published today and so I went along to have a look

http://www.tellmescotland.gov.uk/notices/east-lothian/traffic/00000111542/

but as you can see what it amounts to is designating a pre-existing footpath as a shared-use path. Another example of it being illegal to cycle on the pavements, except where it's not.

Apart from breaking at all the side roads, getting on and off at the Haddington end is particularly problematic where it breaks down to a series of footpaths skirting around two large motorway exit roundabouts. http://bit.ly/1H47o0y

Painful.
