I'm still occasionally Tweeting @ScottishCanals about the various small patches of broken glass left over from the above, and, more recently, the larger patch just west of Leamington Lift Bridge. I tried copying in @SustransScot and @SpokesLothian today to see if that will help at all.

I saw the van at around 7.50 this morning parked at the lock-ups/parking/picnic bench area just past the stretch where the glass was, but it was to dark to have seen if the glass was still there and I forgot to look on the way home!

Well they have promised to send the team out again, but whether or not it will be on another wet day remains to be seen... In reply to my comment about the flooding of the towpath they replied saying that "We have a rolling programme of upgrades to improve surface; £4m invested with partners last year but still work to do."

@jdanielp I tweeted them a picture of those tiles, which clearly showed where they were (on that distinctive S-bend) and gave good directions. Any Scottish Canals operative would have known where to find them...

https://twitter.com/Green_Roofer/status/573037678805065728

I'm not sure that 'not being able to find them' is the whole story...

Southwest_team on the 30th said they were also going to take a look for the glass under job ref 30104677. It's possible they got to it before the canals people. Or it's possible the water was hiding it - there's a lot of flooding at the sides.

@Chug hmm, I suppose that might explain why they struggle to spot anything on the towpath itself.

I've never seen a Canals bod more then ten yards from their truck....which is often parked on the double yellow at Ogilvie Terrace, obstructing either the access to Harrison Park or the muddy path direct to the towpath.

Last time I dealt with Scottish Canals I ended up having to send a Google map marked with the locations of broken glass and tile because the team had been out twice (so I was told) and failed to locate any of it on the stretch of towpath that I had described. How they had failed to spot the broken tile, which was white and strewn across the full width of the path, is hard to imagine... I was hoping for better service this time round, but it would seem that they are being at least as incompetent so far.

Apparently "the team walked the length and didn't see any glass, Daniel. May have been covered by the water."

I replied saying "I take it they'll be out again when it's dry? Also, any chance that the path can be adapted so that it doesn't flood easily?"

Still no word on Twitter from Scottish Canals that their team has been out to clear the glass, which is obvious again now that the path has dried out, although I saw one of their vans at the Bridge 8 Hub car park today.

Just to warn everyone that glass is still present on the towpath despite separate reports from Greenroofer and me and a Tweet from HankChief following up on my report - I have contacted @ScottishCanals again for good measure...

@Greenroofer did you receive any response from Scottish Canals? There are still several areas of broken glass along the section from Wester Hailes Road bridge to the footbridge - in most cases they are towards the side of the path rather than covering it but it would obviously be better if removed completely rather than swept aside. I've reported it to @ScottishCanals as well in any case.

It was dreadful. I once saw a good samaritan at Stenhouse Rd/ broomhoouse roundabout with a little brush and though "thats a good idea!"

Must invest.

There was a very good samaritan on a bike clearing it up this morning as I came by at around 8 am, but he didn't have a brush so couldn't get to the little bits.

I tweeted it to @ScottishCanals who have acknowledged it and 'passed on to local team'

lots of it. Over a stretch of about 10 metres, near the footbridge at Murrayburn/WHEC, there were three big pools of broken glass with scattered shards in between.
