And replacing it with what? The police? Or just a recorded message saying, "If your neighbours are noisy... too bad!"

The thing that worries me (although not specifically named) is whether or not the roads and paths will be gritted.

I strongly suspect that there will be significant cut backs which will result in even main roads not being done consistently.

Still plan to keep cycling but I just hope the winter is fairly mild.

'The school music service would be reviewed to explore the potential for it to be self-funded, for example through the creation of a social enterprise model. The proposal says: “A service will be created where the quality of provision will be maintained; however, there will be a contribution for music tuition, based on the ability to pay.”
The council said 25 per cent of the £2.2m music budget would be retained to support children from poorer families.'

That is a pity, Edinburgh is one of the only LAs to still keep free music tuition in schools. I suppose means testing is something...

Also:

"Other cuts would include reduced maintenance of parks and greater community management of green spaces."

So, DIY maintenance, eh? That will work in some areas, but not others. Look forward to more leaf mulch for longer on the paths folks...

They did once do a library review that altered the Central Library opening hours in a way I liked - I think we gained Wed afternoons or something.

Glasgow is busy trying to save around £150m over the next two years, so I can only imagine what else will be cut over here.

Well. That doesn't sound good. Especially "a review of libraries". Did a "review" ever end up with the service being improved?

And as for "stopping repair and maintenance of stair lighting in tenements" - ummmm. Dark stairs - the inevitable result, eventually, of ending repair & maintenance of lighting - will disproportionately impact people who fear assault (women, gay people, etc. etc.) and poor people who can't afford to pull together a resident-funded repair service. Quite angry about that!*

*Personal anecdote/interest time - many, many, many years ago I was attacked by a man in my (Glasgow) tenement stair. The lights were on at the time but I can say that I was SUPER concerned about stair safety, including the ability to see who was about, for a long time afterwards...

NEW round of council cuts has been unveiled, including scrapping lunchtime lollipop patrols, another increase in parking charges, reducing recycling collections and slashing funding for community policing.

The latest batch of proposals – which will save almost £70 million – also includes withdrawing the night noise team, stopping repair and maintenance of stair lighting in tenements and carrying out a review of libraries.
