When I worked (grudgingly) in project management for a bit, a lot of the fly-up-from-the-home-counties-for-the-week contractors used to stay in the B&Bs along St. Johns Road, between Corstorphine and Murrayfield. A lot of these places seemed to cater for short-to-medium term business travellers.

I know two people who've stayed at the Emmaus House and found it a pleasant experience and good value. It's the closest thing to a boarding house that I know, and serves communal meals that are more sociable than eating alone in a hotel. Neither of them could be said to be a hugely committed Christian, so you shouldn't necessarily feel it's a barrier if the Emmaus House belief system doesn't align with yours.

...oh yes, and when I was visiting someone there a few weeks ago they had an interesting small-wheeled electric bike in the porch.

There's also a new fangled app the youth seem to use to rent out spare rooms for holiday lets and the like. Sky B&B or some such.

One of the young fixie riders will probably be along on a minute to tell me I've got the name wrong and I'm totally not down with the kids, daddio.

Hi

I am hoping someone may be able to help me with regards to arranging short-term accommodation in Edinburgh throughout the month of January.
I am moving to the city to start a new job and at the moment I am having a bit of a headache securing a flat. The problem is that my flat-mate-to-be doesn’t arrive in Edinburgh himself until February, so I’m thinking it may be easier for me to arrange my own accommodation for January and wait for him come up. It also gives me a further month to look for a good flat – and its a lot easier to do that living in Edinburgh instead of 300 miles away!

So, can anyone recommend a decent B&B or budget hotel I could use? I’m hoping I might get a decent price for January with it being the quietest month of the year. Or, do such a thing as Boarding Houses still exist? Something that provides a room and evening meals etc?

I might also be best looking on spareroom.com to see if theres anything suitable, but my first choice would be a B&B at this stage.

Thanks for reading,

Bob
