What is this Holyrood Drive of which they speak? Is it a Freudian slip? Do they mean Holyrood Road? Or Queen's Drive? Holyrood Gait? Or is Holyrood Drive a new street in the Caltongate development (or whatever it's called now)?

That will explain why the new crossing over Corstorphine Road at Kaimes Road (promised for last year) hasn't been put in yet.

- Design of a cycle link from Route 9 to Edinburgh Zoo. This would involve a 75m long ramp and path surfacing, a Toucan crossing and widening of a footway into a shared use path or the provision of segregated cycling facilities

I'm not sure where this bit would be located? Presumably coming up from the old Pinkhill platform (hence the ramp) then crossing over to the north side of the road for the shared use bit? Another relatively small project but one that would make a huge difference to people.

EDIT: second thoughts, do they mean the path beside the scout hall next to the Forestry Commission? Long ramp would get rid of the stairs but it would be very narrow.

Hope these all get built - and quickly!

2. QuietRoute 9
- Design of a cycle link from Route 9 to Corstorphine Hill Nature Reserve, involving segregated cycle lanes or a shared use footway and a Toucan crossing on Corstorphine Road. Upgrades to pedestrian and cycle crossings on Balgreen Road.

I was musing this on the way in.

I don't tend to have any problem crossing Balgreen Road - visibility is good.

The ones I struggle with is Saughton Road North & Saughtonhall Road where visibility isn't great and speeds tend to be faster.

The latter also has a pronounced camber to get over which means the time taken to cross is extended.

2. QuietRoute 9
- Drop kerbs at Pinkhill, Ladywell Avenue and integration of the cycle route with Ladywell path.

I assume by Ladywell path, they mean the Ladiebridge cutthrough and hideous chicane, which recently got new signs...

They were talking a year or two ago about totally revamping that whole corridor along with Tollcross. The suggestion was that Morrison Street might go two-way for its whole length. Thinking hopefully, perhaps this is the "pedestrian part" of the wider scheme?

EDIT: found it http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/massive-city-centre-traffic-shake-up-approved-1-2154163

Wonder which bit of it they mean. There's that particularly hemmed-in-by-railings bit by Gardner's Crescent. Presumably the south but at Haymarket will be [
somethinged
] during the car park hotel build.

Yes - very hostile. Cutting the railings down, or at least reducing their length, is something they could start doing today. The (unnecessary) pinnacle of 70s car-centric design in somewhere totally unsuited for it.

3. Broughton Street and London Street junction is certainly one I've been hoping for for a while. That roundabout is such a waste of space. I wonder how bike friendly it'll be given that it's listed under "walking improvements.

Update goes to the Finance committee this week to approve appointment of the consultants. The report has a bit more detail on the projects. Smaller scale but potentially very welcome improvements.

http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/download/meetings/id/50647/item_79_-_approval_for_the_appointment_of_consultants_to_design_cycling_and_walking_schemes

Detailed list of the schemes for design
Work Package 1, Cycling design Schemes includes:-
1. QuietRoute 8
- Re-design of the junction of South Gyle Access and Bankhead Drive (to link the route to Edinburgh College and Edinburgh Napier University).
- Upgrading and re-determining link paths to Edinburgh Park from South Gyle Access.
- Design a crossing over Russell Road to link two shared use footways.
- Upgrade the existing pelican crossing on Balgreen Road to a Toucan crossing.
- Relocate lighting columns to side of path between North Saughton Road and Saughton Mains Street.
- Upgrade of the main path through Roseburn Park to segregate cyclists and walkers.

- Drop kerbs at Pinkhill, Ladywell Avenue and integration of the cycle route with Ladywell path.
- Design of a raised table junction and tightening of corner radii at the junction of South Gyle Road and South Gyle Gardens.
- Design of a cycle link from Route 9 to Edinburgh Zoo. This would involve a 75m long ramp and path surfacing, a Toucan crossing and widening of a footway into a shared use path or the provision of segregated cycling facilities. Cycle links from Route 9 to Clermiston.

3. QuietRoute 10

Good find.

"the in-house team is at capacity"

And has been for some time, AND CEC never employs enough people for things like this which would improve continuity, built up expertise - and might even save money!

An interesting paper in next week's Finance Committee agenda, on appointment of consultants to work on future cycle/walking plans as the in-house team is at capacity.

http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/download/meetings/id/49691/item_713_-_approval_for_walking_and_cycling

Appendix 2 lists all the schemes involved.
