"

We can’t build a cycle friendly Scotland in just Glasgow and Edinburgh, and pockets of Moray and Stirlingshire. We need to build it everywhere.

Agreed that of it's not approved as is, then as well not to bother. Poor infrastructure is worse than none, IMO.

Yup. The absolute worst offenders on the qbc park on double yellow lines inside the bike lane as it is next to their shop.

If we are trying to change behaviour (e.g. Get non cyclists cycling) I am afraid that there will be a little collateral with shopkeepers having to park elsewhere (round corner) and taxi drivers and white van drivers will have to park legally too?

If this route is compromised too much Sustrans could dump it.

I'd go further than that - if the route is compromised I think *we* should encourage them to dump it.

Just speaking as a taxpayer for a minute here, I'd rather things like the QBC weren't built at all than have a fortune spent on a cycle route that ducks down side streets.

Good idea about a new thread.

If this route is compromised too much Sustrans could dump it. Edinburgh used to get funding easily because they were comparatively bold, but now other Scottish cities have caught up - which is good in itself, of course.

"It appears that there is real concern about air pollution, however at the same time there is denial about individual responsibility for reducing it."

Cognitive dissonance. Maybe we could call it the Bacon Roll Effect.

Given the negative comments by Living Streets about floating bus stops it probably worth pointing out that are already a number of such stops in Edinburgh. Just look at the Tram stop on Princess Street, are Living Streets seriously saying that a cycle lane posses more of a risk to tram users then two lanes of speeding black cabs?

It has been interesting to hear various comments from the protesters, about how the council should now bring in a congestion charge. It appears that there is real concern about air pollution, however at the same time there is denial about individual responsibility for reducing it.

As mentioned on that other thread!

http://www.sustrans.org.uk/scotland/what-we-do/communities/grants-community-infrastructure

Think it's worth having a 'moving on' thread.

Obviously 'we' are pleased and there's lots of work to be done to improve the chances of it all happening - with suitable modifications - but I'm optimistic.

I also think that Living Streets (Edinburgh sub-group) will realise that a 'high quality' bus stop bypass will be better than a round-the-houses-route at Roseburn.

Other Roseburn protestors will be defeated by facts, having their concerns addressed - and the realisation that most people who bothered to reply to the consultation are (subject to details) in favour.
