all it really needs is a proper segregated lane leading on from MMW

Plenty of space for it - most of the times I've cycled along there parked cars by the kerb leave a segregated bikelane width of the inside lane available next to the empty outside lane (and that's without considering the cobbled central reservation/Sunday parking lane). Swap the bikelane with the parked cars and that's the job done.

I was walking down from Calton Hill to the East End at lunchtime in beautiful sunshine, and as I looked along Princes St all I could see was an unmoving mass of buses and a haze of exhaust.

Isn't it just as well we have the gardens alongside to help absorb all that atmospheric nastiness?

Travelling eastbound along Princes St this morning (on the bus) was rubbish, too. So much space taken up by giant metal boxes with lots of people inside.

Jim Eadie proposed closing George iv? or some such. all it really needs is a proper segregated lane leading on from MMW. could be done. but needs leadership, not just chucking ideas around.

<gosh i sound grumpy>

And the fact he refuses to support the Roseburn plan as it's not on his patch, yet can comment on "travel" across the city...

Not sure who's worth voting for in Edinburgh South tbh. Currently have Jim Eadie. Say no more!

I think I'm in Edinburgh West. I've voted SNP recently, but I'm on the verge of giving them the heave.

Only 1.9% of the travel budget going to active travel is a deal breaker for me.

So, while it's nice to hear Giugliano banging the drum, the fact his article spins the AT budget in a positive light is a turn off for me.

Stockman - I was more buoyed by the twitter spat in that it brought attention to actions individuals and parties have & will take.

It's getting politicians past the good words and into tangible actions that we need to see.

We have politicians that 'get it' but we need them to influence others in their party so that things change.

Well, he's got himself into a little Twitter spat with Lesley Hinds, but still can't bring himself to back the Roseburn plans.

If this is what the Holyrood campaign is going to be like then I'm switching off until it's over.

From the article:

"There’s nothing like the sort of bold action we need on the table, with the exception of the proposal to extend the trams to Newhaven."

That'll be a no then :)

"

• Toni Giugliano is the SNP candidate for Edinburgh Western at the next Scottish Parliament elections

"

So presumably he's going to be an MSP soon(?)

Don't suppose he'll be Transport Minister anytime soon though...

I love it when a plan comes together...

I was out with Toni on Saturday in my 2nd candidate tour.

To be fair air pollution and congestion is a big issue for Western Edinburgh and all 3 candidates were already active in this area - I just helped them along.

I do wonder whether if their relative youthfulness means they are less wedded to the car culture and more open to active travel (which they already partake in)

Tony Giugliano (Edinburgh West SNP candidate) is saying all of the right things. Will he, or anyone else, take the next step to put them into action? Even supporting the Roseburn-Leith plans?

(I think HankChief should take huge credit here: he's been pushing the West candidates hard and has taken them out on cycle tours of the area.)
