We have some of the weakest, most oversized and least representative councils in Europe yet they are expected to manage all sorts of important things which impact almost everyone every day - schools, roads, bins, homelessness, air pollution, planning - and in Edinburgh's case, a nationally notable and unique infrastructure project. The paths around East Craigs are cracked and broken with roots making them impassable to all but the most determined push chair users. There are no dropped kerbs other than where driveways happen to line up with paths and yet he thinks it appropriate to write: <em>"Across the country numerous Liberal politicians have campaigned to get broken pavements fixed, uneven pavements sorted and kerbs lowered"</em></p> <p>Am I to assume he isn't one of that number.</p> <p>He presumably also hasn't left his constituency via the pedestrian crossings of Barnton Junction either. Haymarket junction has nothing on the 6 phases required to safely cross from East Craigs to the Barnton shops.</p> <p>He presumably also isn't aware that "dog walkers, with dogs which veer unpredictably to the next interesting scent" are failing in their responsibility to keep their dogs under control. Would he be advocating that his precious motor vehicles should slow down to walking pace whenever a dog is nearby?</p> <p>He returns to sense at the end though <em>"It’s great that so many people are getting out of their cars and walking or cycling. Let’s remember we are all on the same side and make a little space for each other."</em> Although how that mixes with militancy I'm not sure. </p>
