Hi P,
I’ve had a few e-mails on this. The roads team and Natural Heritage team have met with City Fibre to try and get this resolved. I’ll get back to you when I get an update.

Best wishes

I've uploaded 10 photos of the water of Leith walkway. Parts of the path have been narrowed by up to half, other parts left very bumpy.

The work has been carried out by City Fibre.

The WoL path to Balerno has always taken an age to dry out as it doesn't get the sun. It does look worse than usual though.

What's going on with the 2 diversions on the WoL path between Murrayfield and Saughton ? I tried to go along there last night. Any idea when it will be back to normal ?

When you look at traffic on Lanark Rd and the state of the (virtually empty) WoL path, it's not surprising that our modal share rounds down to nothing.

When I started varying my commute, I was gobsmacked at the nice tarmac railway line from Rosewell all the way into Dalkeith, very well used with the WoL a distant second... plus the canal out to Ratho too.

I spoke with some of the folk laying the fibre cable at the bottom of waulkmill today. It seems like this is going to be it in terms of path finish. Recent rains have showed very poor drainage and the bumpiness is severe.

The commuter in me would love to see tarmac (although I also have small children so wouldn't like to see the inevitable fast speeds).

Interestingly, a recent traffic survey that I saw for the Currie area had 68% car usage, 9% public transport, 2% walking. Cycling was rounded down to 0%... (The other 21% I assume don't commute). The report (part of a planning application) denoted that cycling infrastructure was decent but that 4.8 km would be a reasonable upper limit for cycle journeys!

Not used the path in a while but have done so in the past couple of days - seems to be bumpier in places but some of the regular puddles are gone - particularly in the stretches either side of the bypass bridge. Drainage ditches also seem to have been cleared in some places.

I hadn't really noticed when I cycled up it on Monday get but yesterday morning the path seemed very bumpy. Apparently the broadband laying has caused more disruption than I realised. The caterpillar tracks of the diggers has caused this. Lot of building work too, the old engine shed and former splash bathroom warehouse and the massive kin leith development.

However, route is fairly dry except inside the Easter hailes gate tunnel which has repair work going on which has caused mud on the path.

Still going down it this morning as it beats using the road.
