SRD Cateye Opticube on Sunday corrosion - yes.. you'd think making a waterproof light might be a good idea. Wasn't battery corrosion?

Well, it looks like battery corrosion, except the batteries looked okay...the corrosion is just everywhere, not on the terminals...it is supposed to be waterproof, but the catch is definitely dodgy -- was nearly impossible to open, but this time the top just popped off.

Anyway, the review chdot posted makes the new model sound really good, so will probably go for that.

You're right.... I have to deal with the odd delivery for LB at Argyle Place and they always give sensible journey estimates - unlike some drivers who believe everything is 5 mins away by car.

In my experience and also knowing a couple of HGV drivers, they drive every day, unlike many, and know that they are the largest thing on the road and can cause mayhem. They can also manoeuvre those huge trailers just using their mirrors - which just amazes me. They do not want to be responsible for squishing any other road users. They are very courteous and mostly polite...and some of the antics of other motorists must just amaze and astound them, it does me...

NOT the day for me to decide to resume cycling to work....had put new batteries in my Cateye Opticube on Sunday, and it was lovely and bright, but there'd obviously been some corrosion over the summer, and it totally failed to work today...NOT the night for that either.

Was in the city about 6 oclock last night, queensferry road to granton and on to leith,in the lorry. Saw some peeps on bikes with amazing lights. Pouring with rain, hunners of spray from wind, zillions of spray from ma 18 wheeler and I could still see the cyclists lights better than some cars ! Later up to Sighthill and another well lit cyclist in bus/cycle lane thing, I pul;l right over to right hand lane, with indicator illuminated slows down to 27 mph so as not to blow them over and still cars behind me just stay in the bus lane ( it was well after 6 30 ) and expect the cyclist to get out of their way !

Scarey weather last night!
Headed along by Buccleuch St and Causewayside last night and can usually pick up a fair speed going down past the Map Library to Mayfield; however a blustering southerly put paid to that; luckily I'm fairly invisible in the dark and persisting rain so wind drag was reduced considerably.
However this morning was a very different story as was getting a handy shove from behind by a sou'westerly along St Leonards when a 'scabby little white van man' pulls out of side street (New Oakfield Pl) onto Pleasance right in front of me; didn't even look, so he got a real fright when I hammered on his upper sill as I took offside avoiding action and passed him at speed with a serious sideways glance! Just because I'm invisible, I even had my front light on, and he missed seeing that too! Must get a headcam!

her her, the wind split arthurs seat :). he'll have to get the needle and thread out.

But no, definitely didn't feel any noticable drag and felt assisted. it may have just been a side wind that I didn't notice. Guess a westerly (or easterly) fits with Min being blown sideways on North Bridge

Stedoh, that's another example of the wind doing weird things. I guess it was more southerly than anything, but going West End - Meadows - South Arthur's Seat - Duddingston I had a headwind most of the way, and most certainly almost got blown off going round the back of Arthur's Seat as the wind hit them split.

I had a weirdly enjoyable ride last night, but I was fully kitted with new gloves and overshoes and new batteries in my lights so all my extremities were pretty toasty and dry-ish and I felt seen.

I'm also lucky I can go the relatively traffic lite route of Ingliston>Maybury>Cramond>Granton>Leith and I had a tail wind.

Admittedly I wasn't looking the most chic cyclist on the road :)

I didn't think to check the weather in the morning so come home time i had nothing even resembling water proof... Soaked to the skin by Morrison Street, trench foot by Murrayfield. Spent the entire ride on the drops trying to get home as quickly as possible and trying to keep out the wind. Irony is i just got wetter by going faster since i've still not got round to putting the mudguards on yet.

I'm quite glad to have had some recent practice in various combinations of wet/dry, windy/still and busy/quiet through the tramline/cobbles/bus-logjam pinch-point heading east along Princes Street prior to yesterday's trundle home, when all accompanying cycles were illuminated and cautious in contrast to the somewhat desperate-feeling motor traffic.

I'll openly admit that if the first night after the clocks have gone back is also very very wet, and there happens to be a wind whipping about all over the place around the back of Arthur's Seat that has you worried for your basic state of uprightedness, well... It was more than a little concerning.

I prefer to have a few days getting back used to the darkness on the commute before the weather gets in on the act - last night it had completely different ideas.

Also, to the moron on the fixed without any lights, dressed in black, cycling through the Meadows (at what can only be described as a 'leisurely' pace), if you're going to ride without lights while dressed as a ninja do NOT go jumping red lights. Three times I saw you, twice at junctions with cars coming from either side on that sequence. Twice I shouted at you to get lights on AND to stop jumping the reds (it would have been a third but I hadn't caught again by that one and you turned left while I went straight on) and twice you either ignored me, or were plugged into a world completely distinct from this one.

Every other cyclist I saw was lit up, but the irony is that the one who isn't is the one all the drivers will see, then say they couldn't see, and use it as a reason for hitting me.
