It's not as inflammatory as some I've read, but the entire rhetoric of the piece (including the title) is divisive - it's as if cyclists and motorists are different breeds. It does mention one asymmetric relation of the potential damage caused, but I think it's also the case that most cyclists drive, whereas not most drivers cycle (regularly at least). As a result I think most cyclists have some empathy with the difficulties of driving in congested areas, but I'm not sure how much empathy is returned by most drivers. Most drivers I share the road with are excellent and understanding, but I think the best ones are those that can empathise with the cyclist. I have no statistics to back any of that up so it might well be nonsense.

" basic courtesy and good manners from both car and bike users would greatly reduce road rage incident"

Well, obviously. Surely it isn't road rage if it's courteous?

I read the article and tbh, I couldn't find anything that I really wanted to rant about. It was written in a slightly patronising manner but otherwise ok in an anodyne sort of way.

So, I read this article in the health section of today's Irish Times, which is a wee bit ironic given my blood pressure probably increased tenfold, as it does when I read this kind of stuff.

Masquerading as a balanced article it also includes the nugget that Dublin is "the safest capital in the developed world in which to be a cyclist".

I should probably hit Delete now rather than Send Post as it's not a great start to be dumping with my first post but I might feel a little bit better at least.
