Pretty sure I saw the slabs intact and piled up on one side at the start of the work, but I could be wrong.

Instead of carefully lifting the slabs by hand so they could re-use them, they probably just broke them up with a jackhammer.

Typical lazy, wasteful society

I suspect Scottish Power are trading in nearly-new pilfered slabs to try and recoup some of their losses!

Pavement and road end of Jane Street looks ok.

Casselbank Street road looks fine but about 1" drop on pavement. Have tweeted photos to Leslie and CitycenterLeith team

I'll take the evidence of those who're cycling over this, as I haven't yet. Good to hear it's not as bad as I feared!

Good also to hear that Cityfibre have relaid the nice new flagstones. Scottish Power on the other hand made off with them and left a poorly-filled, 1-inch-lower-than-the-surrounding-slabs mess of tarmac after doing work on the corner of Casselbank Street. Reported it to the council, but a couple of months on and SP still haven't come back to put their bodge-job right.

We walked that way on Saturday, and at Foot of the Walk, end of Jane/Gordon Streets, it was definitely Cityfibre. There were other patches on the road in the area and have to say they looked good; very flush with existing surface, well sealed around the edges and a good attempt made to match the red-chipped areas of the apparent cycle lane.

They were also relaying the lifted pavement flagstones as they went.

Detectable under 28mm Marathon/Gatorskins at 100psi at 15mph, as a gentle variation in altitude rather than a judder.

If it's making an enormous bus judder even slightly then the continued passage of enormous juddering buses is likely to soon turn a small flaw into a small chip into a large chip into a huge rutted mess.

@threefromleith

SGN were doing some works on Church Hill and their reinstatement work has been excellent.

Maybe depends on the individual team?

Perhaps worth calling them to see what can be done.

The signs I saw this morning were for SGN (Scottish Gas Networks), and you definitely felt the reinstated sections as you went over them on the bus, though not sure how much of a dunt you'll experience rattling up through your bones on a bike.

It's City Fibre "rolling out superfast broadband".

In theory contractors are not supposed to dig up newly laid tarmac for at least 1 year unless it's an emergency.

In fairness to City Fibre their reinstatement works are good (apart from water of Leith walkway)

Ah well, it couldn't last. Who is doing the digging? Scottish Gas? Scottish Power? Scottish Water? Or Virgin Media?

Leith Walk gives Whitehouse Loan a run for its money. Certain sections (e.g.. near Pilrig junction heading south) are arguably worse.

I worried about that too but the first patches are pretty good and I didn't feel them as I went over them this morning. Nothing can be as bad as the top half (other than Whitehouse Loan obviously; is that because it has a bike shop on it?)

As I'm off shopping in Princes Street this afternoon on the way home, so the bike was left at home and I was on the bus this morning. Lo and behold, they're digging deep trenches into Leith Walk from the side streets, right across the cycle lanes.

I'll lay money on them doing a dire reinstatement job job afterwards, leading to sunken, cratered sections in possibly the only sections of the 'cycle lane' that no-one ever parks in.
