I've had success with WD-40 or similar - I removed a bad oil mark from a much liked cycling top. You need patience and I found a clean toothbrush worked. Try on a small area before launching into a serious assault. Once cleared of oil, flush with water and wash with appropriate cleaning stuff for Gore-Tex I guess.

Worth looking at a site like Instructables too for suggestions.

In my experience lighter fluid always works well for taking oil stains out. Sally's dabbing method works best! Also a +1 for stain devil.

Generally, don't scrub at stains - dab them with a suitable solvent using an absorbent cloth, with another absorbent cloth underneath. Do this *before* you wash it as any washing will set the remaining stain permanently. I've had reasonable luck with oil & grease stain devils but apparently mayonnaise will work in an emergency with chain oil.

That's the advice for trousers, anyway - I don't know what impact it would have on a softshell jacket. I'd have thought it should be washable in techwash & then re-treatable but I'd check with the manufacturer's website.

Was wondering if anyone has any cleaning tips...

I was out for a ride yesterday and as it was nice, put my softshell jacket in my bag. Unforunately, my lock also was in the bag with oil and all. Consequence of this is I now have a nice oil stain up the side of my fluorescent Gore jacket.

Does anyone have any tips on how to clean it out? Conscious that machine washing or scrubbing (or any normal forms of cleaning) might affect the windstoppyness or the water repellence... So I would welcome any suggestions!

Of course, I could just leave it given it's only cosmetic?
