The closure and diversion for the cycling are much less than for the Peebles Beltane Festival, when even the Tweed Bridge is closed at times. Before the racing there was a 'family ride' and it just goes to show what can happen when you close off roads.</p> <p>It was just a short loop, probably not even a mile, right in the town centre, and for half an hour around 1000 people went round and round thoroughly enjoying themselves. Overwhelmingly dominated by kids, from teeny tots on balance bikes, to pre-teens haring round on MTBs (with not a single cross word about them weaving in and out). And a unicycle. And a tandem. And bagpuss.</p> <p>Just brilliant.
