Yes, I'll be interested in it too. Don't see it as victim blaming but instead clarifying the sections that apply to cyclists; there have been those on here insisting that we are not vehicular for example. There are plenty of sections in the HWC that could be expanded to give better advice and clarify what is meant/expected of cycle lane markings etc. Shame their isn't an HMSO in Edinburgh anymore to peruse a copy though.

I haven't seen the content yet. If Chris Boardman is involved then I'd hope it wouldn't fall into the victim blaming category. If the content is actually aimed at drivers understanding what cyclists are taught in bikeability - perhaps with regards to primary position and avoiding door zones, and not having to ride in cycle lanes etc, then this would be a good thing. I'd be very interested to see the contents of it - have just ordered one, will post up pics when I get it...

Victim blaming if you ask me - cyclists are already included in the highway code and I agree with IH that it just keeps the myth going that ALL cyclists ignore it.

I'd welcome anything to help people (of any age) to get into cycling, but I do have a bit of a problem with the title being associated with The Highway Code, because it plays to the common trope that 'cyclists' ignore the HC.

From this it seems (mainly) sensible and has some good backers.

Contents seem to include aspects of Highway code relating to Cycling and also maintenance and practical advice. Particularly useful for those non-cyclists with children going through Bikeability training.

Will not be enough for some people, but if it helps some concerned people to take the plunge and educates some worried parents, it will have done its job...

Aimed a parents and kids apparently. Not got much of an issue with it (Edmund King is certainly a cyclist, and anything that gets Boardman's support must have some merit). I guess it's just designed to be more accessible to new cyclists, and those taking kids out, than the Highway Code itself, which many people won't realise contains rules for cyclists (and I suspect it's also a bit more practical in advice, though I've not seen the contents).
