I'm not sure if it was a con to get it through licencing but they certainly never put much effort into brewing.

When it first opened it did its own beer, but that didn't last very long at all!

Brewery at Archerfield also does tours.

Edit: just noticed this was around Edinburgh, so may be a bit far.

Ah, I may be misremembering, I thought the CCE outing tried some of the 'local' beer, but might be the kit was also just for display.

Gin tour? That's be Summerhall and Heads n' Tails and.... er... North Berwick...

Brewery tour would have the new GF brewery as well, Bellfield. Quite nice it is too.

The Gothenburg wouldn't count as Edinburgh I presume?

Are they brewing again? Seem to recall the last time CCE was there the resident brewer had not long passed away and nobody had yet taken over the brewing facilities.

That awful McCowan's place at Fountain Park finally got rid of the sham brewpub appearance by selling off the brewery equipment a while back. I'm not sure if it was a con to get it through licencing but they certainly never put much effort into brewing.

A route involving various watery bits.

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14285791

Don't think I've precisely done this (done all sections, some many times).

Very much 'country in the city'.

Not much on road, most off-road well surfaced.

Trip over the bing at the Wisp can be avoided, as can the steps at Gallolee.

Route infinitely expandable, could add in Esk and Almond.

You could certainly do a wee tour to Stewart Brewing at Loanhead, the Caley at Slateford then along to the Beer Factory place at Sighthill.

How are you defining it?

Beyond the usual "silly for silly's sake?"

Generally, post-1970s modernist buildings that dispense with the strict formality and lack of ornamentation of modernism and instead borrow heavily from classical or vernacular styles for ornamentation. Think columns and pediments.

Extensive use made of materials that aren't concrete and generally high-quality materials for cladding, quirky use of colour or other details. Think coloured bricks, marble, sandstone and bright metalwork.

Interiors often also of a matching high quality.

There isn't that much of it in Edinburgh, certainly not big examples, and most of it is pretty conservative by PoMo standards. The Gyle or the EICC are good examples. Leith Academy or Waterworld too (although not up to the usual defining budget and quality of materials)

I made a map that isn't complete by any stretch of the imagination; https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?hl=en_US&app=mp&mid=1zKPqPBUIFeE4DYnJ2f9I5II0r8Y

If one was to suggest a bit of a summer cycle safari around Edinburgh, what should the theme be, i.e. what should we stop and look at along the way? (beyond the usual cake / coffee / infrastructure / old bricks).

Nature. Archeology. Architecture (old and/or new). Parks. Hills.
