@slowcoach - You have beautifully summed up the vastly varied regional dialects of the Borders. Just 7 miles from stow to gala and the change in accent is considerable. Once you get to Hawick or Jedburgh, all bets are off :)

"What's the right way to say Stow?"

As in cow or brow. Not slow or grow, that's the one down south.

The ow in Stow sounds the same as in cow.
Just south of Stow is Bow, and the ow in Bow sounds the same as in slow (but some locals say it the same as the oo in coo). Unless nobrakes knows better?

The Edinburgh to St Andrews Cycle run used to hire a furniture removal van for the bikes and a bus for the people. A full size van might be a bit big but some of the smaller vans might be ideal. Removers are used to dealing with fragile loads and are also insured

Having lived in Stow for many years, I have good things to say about David Harrison Ford in Galashiels (bought 2 cars from them). They do van rentals - you could get the train to Gala and then maybe get a van from there for the day. They're nice people, worth giving a phone.

Hello,

We're running a charity event in the Borders in September for Shelter, the housing and homeless charity. https://www.borderscyclechallenge.org.uk/

The start is in Kelso. While there is plenty of car parking, I'm trying to look at options for those taking part without a car (including me). The nearest train is 15 miles away, and I don't fancy adding 30 miles to my day!

Does anyone have any recommendations for transport options for small groups of people + bike?

Thanks in advance,
James
