I went that way a few times with the closure of Chambers Street. As Nelly says, those are rough setts, although I never resorted to the pavement, quite enjoying the visceral thrill of rough setts.

I hate walking pushing my bike, so will avoid this route. Good to have warning.

Working for me, useful document.

Have to be honest, in the "cyclists dismount" section I always jump on the pavement, as the cobbles there are incredibly tooth rattlingly bad !!

"No such page

This page doesn't seem to exist. Sorry for the inconvenience."

But I did find this:

http://www.ed.ac.uk/estates/news/fringe-2016-traffic

which gives a PDF link that doesn't work either!

"There is a blue cycle roundel which depicts "Route to be used by pedal cycles only", but the text is "cyclists dismount"."

I think they've just picked a cartoon of a bike, which happens (confusingly, perhaps) to be blue.

Fun indeed.

There appears to be some confusion regarding cycling signage.

There is a blue cycle roundel which depicts "Route to be used by pedal cycles only", but the text is "cyclists dismount".

So it looks like there is going to be a cycle route through the pedestrianised area, with the suggestion to dismount.

Quite likely the opposite of what they'd intended!

the text description in the file linked to is confusing, but the map on the seond last page

they're pedetsrianising the top (north) and west sides of GS - including 'cyclist dismount' signs.

http://www.ed.ac.uk/files/atoms/files/festival_fringe_2016_-_traffic_management.pdf

I complained plenty about the previous one-way scheme last year which had drivers speeding through the square to get to george square lane.

this may be better. but i'm not sure.

the 'JULY' map looks like what they did last summer, so I'm anticipating carnage again.
