"Aye, but that's not how this particular incident played out"

No. It's not how this one played out. But that doesn't stop my point being correct, when fans see the effect.

"If this incident had been further down the field they'd have shrugged it off"

We'll have to agree to disagree on that.

"Yates crash was covered under the usual sprint finish rules"

Nope. If it had been he would have got the same time as the main field behind him. They tweaked the rules to give him the advantage.

"and Froome would have been back in yellow after the time trial next day anyway"

Which couldn't in any way have been guaranteed. But by that rationale, if it was to happen on Morzine in the penultimate stage, and would lose him the yellow then should they give him the benefit, but if it's an earlier stage with a TT later they shouldn't? Wherein lies the difference?

Aye, but that's not how this particular incident played out

There was bottleneck congestion, too many fans and too many motorbikes

If this incident had been further down the field they'd have shrugged it off

Similar rider collisions with cars / motorbikes weren't treated this way

Yates crash was covered under the usual sprint finish rules

and Froome would have been back in yellow after the time trial next day anyway

"Then it would have been a legendary tour for the right reasons, not a farce of favouritism by the commissaires to protect yellow."

And given free reign to fans to take out the contenders they don't like.

Right decision. 100%. Not favouritism, but fairness (Adam Yates wasn't in yellow when he was given similar leeway for the collapsing 1km banner).

Tour de Farce any way you look at it, but for me the right decision would have been to let the result on the road stand, and leave Froome with the righteous indignation to fuel his way back to win the tour anyway.

Then it would have been a legendary tour for the right reasons, not a farce of favouritism by the commissaires to protect yellow.
