Forgot i started this thread. Got called back into the hospital at 1am so just took a taxi.

If I end up going home again tonight I'll see about trying some of these suggestions tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice

Porty/Craigmillar is probably best bet.

I find Bruntstane Road awful and avoid at all costs, especially going up (south) when I'm considerably slower that the often impatient drivers.

Would suggest having a look at either:
- Footbridge over to Hope Lane then through Magdelene.
- Brighton Place, Durham Road, and through Bingham (Brighton Place not great but rest v. quiet residential streets)

Getting very circuitous, but from Forkenford on The Innocent you can cut through via a path to King's Haugh Industrial Estate and then some shared use path on Peffermill Road to a path that then heads over to Bridgend - off road all the way to ERI from that path.

A friend of mine who lives in Dunbar works at the ERI and cycles in most days from Waverley. I'll quiz her as to her route, but I believe she does the innocent/craigmillar route. Getting to innocent from waverley is probably simple - Jeffrey Street or Market street/new street, cutting through to Dumbiedykes and up and over to the Pleasance area.

Nice route. It's just a shame that Bawsinch Nature Reserve isn't more accessible.

Via the Innocent is certainly circuitous, but mostly off-road -

(Don't need to go as far as Brunstane Road)

The path from Craigmillar to ERI is really nice, looks brand new. You could take the Leith Links to Portobello route, up Brunstrane Road, onto the Innocent railway, leaving it at Duddingston Road West.

It isn't the most direct but it is mostly off road. Save some energy for Brunstrane Road, it's a bit steep.

I've cycled to ERI for various appointments, but from south edin and onroad, so can't help much, except to reassure that there are lots of racks.

I mean, I imagine it is but doable for someone who won't know exactly where they are going? And ideally off-road if possible.

Suggestions?

(I *am* off to google maps and cyclestreets it, but folks on here are as expert as it comes so throwing it out here for ideas too)
