“Queensferry Road crossing improvements is still in the design stages”

Presume there will now be a redesign including wider pavements, cycle lanes and single carriageway road...

My apologies for resurrecting a dead thread but I've always been quite curious to know what happened to AT projects in late 2016/early 2017.

From looking through the consultation hub, there was a big glut of AECOM consultations and then, well, not much. Did they pay for the consultants and just realise they didn't have the money to actually build anything?

Most of them had construction goals of 2017/18 but I don't think any ever made it to statutory/construction except for Lower Granton Rd & Balgreen Toucan.

Went past there today, as it happened, and there certainly isn't any sign of any problem with access along the main Water of Leith path, so it must be access to or across the site at the Lanark Road side that is the issue.

Kinleith Mill is the new housing that is going in below Currie, yeah. (It was a paper mill, with railway sidings, before that.) I assume there's going to be a redirection to the path like at the new development near Colinton and that's what it's about?

Not sure where to put this, something I saw on Facebook to do with a potential blocking of the Water of Leith walkway at the Kinlieth Mill site (wherever that is - is that the new housing that's going in?)

I write to confirm that the hearing session for the above Order will take place on Thursday 29 September 2016 within the Gibson Craig Hall, 156 Lanark Road West, Currie EH14 5NY.
The hearing will commence at 14:00pm within the small hall and is expected to finish around 17:00 pm. You may be interested to note that this venue has full disabled access.

Quote from Facebook, I don't know what "the above order" is exactly. Just thought it could do with some wider publicity?

Just seen the response to the Macdonald Rd scheme by Broughton Primary parent council and it is pretty scathing of the scheme:

- The cycle (and walking) improvements are described as insufficient to encourage parents and children to cycle to school.
- Segregated lanes are requested.
- Concludes with "A much more ambitious scheme is needed"

I actually quite like it - it's much better than the Innocent to Meadows path in that it would actually be possible, and potentially desirable, to use it when travelling on the main road, and it'd be no bother to extend it in later years to encompass a longer stretch of road. Needs clear marking to highlight the two-way bits though!

Perhaps the red paint should continue through the island (alerting pedestrians to look right even if they can't hear cars) and then a bit of central hatching should be sacrificed to allow space for a bit of extra kerb protection, and then painted hatching, as cyclists rejoin the road.

Gilmerton Road plan is just missing a few miles of segregated lane in each direction...

The merge into the traffic at the southern end of it next to the pinch point doesn't look great - especially if drivers expect people cycling N-S to go into the lane for 100m.

Looks a pretty useful link though, if we do insist on going down the dual network route. That roundabout way from Lasswade Road to the Innocent is a bit of a pain to follow so any signage improvements would also be welcome. Looked as if some kind residents in Moredun and Niddrie had messed with the signs last time I tried to follow it!

My main comment was:

"The cycle lanes need to go on the other side of the parked cars so that the parked cars offer protection to cyclists from moving traffic."

I went to the QR20 (McDonald Road and Easter Road) and QR61 (south east) consultations this week. Both had a representative from the council and a representative from AECOM (the consultants) who were really helpful and happy to chat in great detail about the plans.

I shan't spend time regurgitating all the detail as the good news is that all the stuff will be going onto the council consultation portal in early August and they'll be inviting comments then. Overall though the plans looked pretty reasonable given the constraints.

It sounds like there will likely be another round of consultations in September for other parts of work contracted out to AECOM under "Work package 1" detailed at http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/download/meetings/id/49691/item_713_-_approval_for_walking_and_cycling (page 9/10). Exciting times :-)

There's limited info on the specific thread, but they had more detailed plans for discussion at the consultation.

It seemed to be very early in the process, so there will be other opportunities, I suspect.

Sorry cc, I spotted you, but assumed you'd already contributed, and I was struggling to spot the consultation, so didn't take time to chat.

It was setup to the right, on the partition for the computer area, but facing the rear of the library.

It was preculiarly difficult to find!

I was in Newington Library last night and didn't notice any consultation material - just the usual knitting group (I think). So I'd also like to see a PDF if there is one?

I can't make the consultation as I'l be at work, unfortunately.

Anyone find a link to a PDF of the proposals perchance?

From the Spokes bulletin, some consultations in the next couple of weeks:

http://www.spokes.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/1607-15-action-update.pdf

Grange Road Weds 20 July, 5-8pm, Newington Library. The project is to improve crossing points for cyclists and pedestrians, with options of 3 cycle/pedestrian zebra crossings or 2 light-controlled. [Recent changes in government regulations now allow side-by-side cycle/pedestrian zebras].
 Easter Road Tue 26 July, 5-8pm, McDonald Road Library. A cycle/ped crossing and segregated cycleway connecting Brunswick Road and Bothwell Street, which form part of the Council's quiet route no.20.
 McDonald Road Tue 26 July, 5-8pm, McDonald Road Library. This is also part of Quiet Route 20. The ped/cycle crossing of Broughton Rd from St Marks Park will be improved and cycle lanes installed on the section of McDonald Road which does not already have them. Also other changes, including removing the road centre line (as the council did for the Gogar Station Road cycle lanes) and installing a raised table at the entrance to McDonald Road.
 Quiet Route #61 Wed 27 July, 5-8pm, Craigmillar Library. This route links Duddingston, Niddrie, the Royal Infirmary, Moredun and Gilmerton to Midlothian and Rosslyn Chapel, largely on quiet roads and traffic free paths. The project is to improve those sections which are poor for cycling and/or walking, including... Gilmerton Road – crossing and short segregated link; Old Dalkeith Road – new and improved toucan crossings and linking paths; Niddrie House Avenue – cycle exemption to the current no entry; Hay Avenue – shared use of Hay Avenue footway and improved underpass
