I was taking cagoule off this morning at the gap in the hedge on to the towpath if you follow the path behind slateford station up to the towpath (shortly after hailing arellcat at Longstone and just before hi5ing jdanielp on towpath. Chap had been out for milk and papers and struck up conversation with me

Chap: Lot of cyclists on path now (said with some trepidation)
Gembo: Some of them go a bit fast
Chap: Yes and with vegetation growth hard to get out the way
Gembo: Yes some bits get cut and others don't
Chap: Typical council
Gembo: Think it might be Scottish Canals that are responsible for the vegetation

That's fast for Scottish Canals!

Cold tar was present on Thursday night 7pm already. I was quite impressed myself having only noted the hole a few days ago... and noticing the hole stuck in my mind because it explained the person falling off I saw around a week ago or so.

If it reappears take note that this hole is particularly nasty because it's so difficult to see...

The OSM mapping doesn't capture the level of detail needed for this (at the moment) but were talking about here - just where the wide bit is tapering to become normal width again if you're on the way out of town:

@rosie, no spoilers as these episodes are often on BBC iplayer but quite a lot crammed into one punchline after the end of the running time of the programme. My good friend sandy who is also a great dad's army fan loves the smart German uniform. Other moments of high comic genius around Fraser, I knew a man who caught a chill on a night like this, five days later I was screwing the handles down on his coffin etc. I implore anyone with BBC iplayer to acquaint themselves with any of the episodes of dad's army that are in colour (the first series in black and white was prior to them writing for the actors) up to about series eight before the Spiv actor dies )ironically the second yngest in the platoon)

@ gembo - now that was my favourite moment in Dad's Army. Close runner up - Wilson and Pike in German uniform not wanting to take them off as they're so smart.

@gembo, yes that's the one. As for Captain Mainwaring, he did use his time wisely. There's no telling when you might save the day with an ability to play the bagpipes.

@eddie-h when was that? I did not see them this morning but I did see them tonight. I was going to say the millionaire magician Paul Daniels would have said now that's magic.

@cyclingmollie, is that the road from whiteadder to garvald? A cold an d lonely spot you understand (similar to where Capt. MainwAring spent his honeymoon) or some other cold and lonely spot.

If on towpath heading east at fountainbridge do not go onto the newish paving to avoid the speed bumps until after the first bump as a cavity has appeared that will trap your wheel if you are unlucky.

Looks like the new paving has caused the towpath to crumple a wee bit. Not sure who should fix this but fairly sure won't get fixed until deteriorates further.
