Yes but I haven't been there for years. I saw Eddie Reader there years ago and occasionally went for food.

If the plan for Hyndland is anything like London Rd I'll ignore it. They seem to want to send us round a couple of extra streets instead of going in a straight line.

http://www.gobike.org/pdfs/londonroadinner.pdf

They could sent the cars round the bend instead.

UPDATE

"
After writing to my councillors for info, it turns out the works on Hyndland Road are enabling works for new cycle lanes and traffic calming measures. They just went about it in such a way that it makes it much more dangerous until it's done.
There was (at the time of the photographs) a nice little cycle path avoiding the sharp left turn where Hyndland Road is joined by Highburgh Road.

By e-mail

"

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to complain about the danger cyclists now find themselves in, due to the new road layout on Hyndland Road, close to the junction with Highburgh Rd near Cottiers.

When cycling up from Hyndland Street, a green cycle track used to take me safely onto the green cycleway on the busy part of Hyndland Road, close to where it becomes Highburgh Road, making a relatively safe junction for a cycle to negotiate.

I am very disappointed to find this has now been paved over, necessitating following the narrow road up to a sharp new junction made for motorised traffic. This is now extremely dangerous for cyclists, as cars and heavy vehicles are forced to squeeze up to the kerb as they queue to turn left, while looking almost over their shoulders to the right, as they wait for a gap in the traffic.

Can you explain why the old, safer, cycle lane I mention above has been paved over?

Farther along Hyndland Road there is work ongoing to put triangular kerbed sections out into the road, presumably to calm traffic. These cut right across the existing green cycleway, and make it dangerous for cyclists, as we are forced out into heavy, single-lane traffic at each triangular kerbed section.

Why has this been felt necessary, and why has there been a distinct disregard for the safety of cyclists?

It would had been easy to leave a 2 or 3 foot wide cycleway to cut through these obstructions, making it safer for cyclists to keep going in a straight line, rather than weaving dangerously in and out of heavy streams of traffic.

Why has this not been done?

I trust you will treat this as a matter of urgency, and hope you will do all you can to rectify this situation before someone is injured or worse due to this thoughtless disregard for cyclists.

Yours sincerely

"
