Whenever we looked across at Edinburgh, it seemed socked in with grey cloud and rainy. Only day we had rain was last Sunday, which was happily the final stage, so we forced our cricket loving friends who had come to visit to watch the TOur.

There's been a big push in Eilie to encourage cycling to school. Also a campaign for funding to connect Eilie > Crail with a cycle path. Don't know if that's happened, or has funding yet.

It certainly has someone local with time and enthusiasm trying to push..

"If it rains all week you can always nip back to Edinburgh"

It's 45 miles, mind! Glasgow is more convenient.

Elie is lovely lot of second homes now I imagine? Quiet midweek out of season etc. Quite something in season if the weather fair like last week. Hire a house, no need to go abroad etc. If it rains all week you can always nip back to Edinburgh?

Bankers not allowed?

Reactions from people who we've mentioned Elie to are fascinating. How much of it is reputation and how much actual experience?

Being a foreigner/academic is always interesting because you don't fit into any presupposed categories (and you don't get asked what school you went to!).

Aye, but it's only like that on weekends, and unless you are legal profession they will run you out of town sheepish.

Is Elie.

The streets are full of families cycling with under 8s on the road, mums with handbags dangling from their arms, others with tennis rackets or golf clubs, 10-15 year olds cycling around on their own (sometimes on mobiles and in flip flops - quite a sight), very few helmets - mainly on the under 10s. And a good range of older folk in bikes too - although more them on foot. Very civilised. One of my favourite vignettes was a mum and daughter in bike outside e bakery. The mum comes out with various packets, loads them into the girls backpack and off they go. But the best part was definitely the kids just cycling around on their own.

Can't embed pics from the app: https://flic.kr/p/Kwwvpt https://flic.kr/p/JH1zcc I was tempted to take pics of people on bikes, but resisted.
