Cheers, I was thinking of trying a season of cyclocross so these would not be used for commuting.

I was using a (worn) pair of Specialized Houffalize but having worn down the tread in the centre meant it was getting to be a little hazardous riding on anything more challenging than a light offroad trail. Good tyres though if you can get them.

I have some Conti Twisters in the shed, which are great for offroad but draaaaaag on tarmac. I had Maxxis Raze (aka CST Cultivator) tyres and they were pretty good too, but on-road use killed the tread quickly.

Currently running a pair of 35mm Nokian Rollspeeds, bought via Gumtree. Modestly treaded clinchers, as I found today, really don't like deep mud or deepish gravel.

I did read a good blog by a guy who tried Schwalbe CX Comps as his commuting tyres during winter a few years ago. While they handled the snow and slush just fine, but tread only lasted around 4 months of daily use.

I should really get a blog so I can ramble on using my own bandwidth.

In that case, I've only really used Clement X'Plor USH, 700x35c and only really a couple of times off road proper. They managed fine with thick mud, grass decents, relatively rocky bits over the pentlands and a good few km joining my route up.

I like my High Rollers too but they're very very soft rubber. I think I took a months use out of them just riding down to haymarket for a trip last year.

I use Maxxis High Rollers - grippy but draggy - on the hardtail and WTB Vigilante (front) and Trail Boss (rear) on the "enduro" - grippy and fast, but too fragile for fast descents through Lake District rocks...

Thinking of putting my XC bike currently gathering dust in the garage to some use this winter. What make and model of tyres do most use, do people know?

Oh and non glued in, clincher type of tyres.
