Very sad. I knew him very slightly- from here. Like others, we would chat in the meadows occasionally. Thanks for posting.

Very sad to hear. I met him a few times but didn't know about his RSPB role. His knowledge on raptors and research into gaelic place names with eagle connections shows how lateral a thinker he was.

Terribly sad news. I met RJ both through CCE and work - a true gent, scholar and all round good guy. We often passed each other in the Meadows.

Thoughts are with his family and friends.

I don't think I've got an active account there anymore Arellcat, so if you were able to do it that would be good.

RJ rode with Mel and I through a torrential downpour at a distant past Pedal for Scotland. Couldn't have asked for more jovial company.

Oh no! That's terribly sad news.

RJ and I had been occasional friends for a long time. We took part in the C+ Great Forum Ride, and would sometimes bump into each other in the Meadows. His obituary is spot on.

(WC, will you be cross-posting to yACF?)

I think quite a lot of you on here will have met RJ, Richard, who posted on here from time to time, and is genuinely one of the nicest men I ever met. A true gent, and someone I could talk to about the Isles and birds knowing he would never glaze over.

His obituary puts it best, "Softly spoken and understated, jovial, perceptive, tactically clever, and determinedly non-institutional, Richard Evans was admired and loved by colleagues and friends - as much for his humanity as for his deep intelligence."

He suffered a heart attack riding to work on 26th July, and died in hospital 2 weeks later. We'd meant to meet up quite a few times for a coffee at Edinburgh Park, and now feel awful that we never managed it.

Thoughts are with his wife and son.
