Is it still the wee American guy that sold me a wheen of paperbacks 1987-1990?

I think the route does bring people from the meadows to the shop for example Morningsider and I go that way after peters yard instead of Forrest road?

The guy who runs Till's seems very pleased with the cycle way even though it's titchy.
He likes the larger pavements and the increase in footfall.

I suspect he'd even be happy to go on the record as a supporting voice if he were asked.

Some campaigning and pressure does pay off.

Alistair Grant of the EEN asked on Monday where to buy a second hand bike. Today he's tweeted a picture of his new bike. Small victories.

If anyone spots him then give him a wave - he seems a nice guy.

LivD: yes, I went back there yesterday afternoon with my wife en route to Cramond. The espresso was stellar: best I've had in Edinburgh.

At the previous hate-fest I overheard someone say that the florists were moving round onto the main road and that Colpamio was considering extending next door. If so then I hope they put some cycle racks in as it will definitely go onto the "Cafes" thread here with high recommendation.

he's extraordinarily inconsistent

The inconsistencies seem to be a hallmark of this sort of misinformation and fearmongering campaign. You don't need to be right if you can get people scared and worried.

I don't need to reiterate any of the examples I got from the brief discussion a Roseburn trader insisted on having with me on Monday, you can guess them all and most of them contradicted themselves in the following or even same sentence (i.e. it was both simultaneously too wide and too narrow, nobody would use it but it didn't offer high enough capacity...)

There is currently only around 210 metres of protected cycleway across the whole of Edinburgh. The longest continuous stretch is 140 metres on St Leonard’s Street. In contrast, miles of protected cycleways stretch across cities such as London, Bristol, Copenhagen and Amsterdam.

When asked about Roseburn protesters jeering cyclists, he admitted emotions were running high. “The problem is people are very angry and upset at the way cyclists have addressed this. They don’t seem to want to engage. “That was an expression of frustration, because we were hoping people would stop. And they were ringing their bells. There was a concerted plan to ring bells as a sign of ‘We don’t give a toss’.

The shouts of 'B*gger off' were invitations to stop and chat and the tinkling of bells an instruction to b*gger off. Did anyone see a white rabbit?

@algo and @edd1_h " do you remember he told us that you can't trust Alison Johnstone because she voted against the congestion charge? "

I don't know if Alison voted against the congestion charge, but 2 points;

I'm surprised the cafe owner appeared to support the con.ch which would seem to be against his own 'passing trade' interest.

There was a recent post and link (actually might have been an @srd tweet) where an English city (Nottingham?) had introduced a workplace parking levy which is much more efficient at reducing unnecessary car commuting than con.ch and provides funding for extentions to their tram network.

knocking down one side of the street to fit an extra couple of lanes in

Or how 'bout 1.6 billion for a motorway style flyover and some sort of spaghetti off-ramp system landing motors directly at the doors of the shops?

@LivD I have stood by the Roseburn Bar considering buying a card from that shop, and then decided it's not worth my while going all the way to the crossing and back just to get a card. The new crossing as part of the re-design would have made it easy.
