Such supplies will be smuggled by shifty looking characters over the internal border from the "Greenport" of Leith Docks' contraband warehousing operations.

Imagine if you put the pause between the second and the third word. A parrying zone Comtrolled By Leith

Cars only allowed in if driver has supply of reefer?

Much relieved to hear this as it will be absolutely required once the John Lewis warehouse is converted into "low car" flats. Hopefully the amount of on street parking will be reduced at the same time and/or residents there will struggle to get permits.

It's finally happening! Still a year away though...

"Phase one of a four-phase roll out of controlled parking zones will see parking restrictions implemented in Leith, Gorgie and Shandon - specifically in the Leith Walk, Pilrig, Abbeyhill and North Leith areas."

"Following the legal process, a second consultation on phase one is set to be launched in quarter four of 2021, followed by a planned implementation in quarter one of 2022. "

"Furthermore, Leith will be set for further restrictions, as phase two also includes plans for Willowbrae North, West Leith, Bonnington and Easter Road. Consultation on phase two has been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, with the public responses set to be gathered in quarter two of 2021, and the final implementation planned for quarter two of 2022."

https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/politics/council/legal-move-implement-controlled-parking-zones-edinburgh-3111603

N.B.:- Contrary to the EEN headline, the proposals are not "controversial" and have in fact been widely welcomed in the local area

This petition is essentially arguing that the CPZ needs to be extended eastwards and northwards from its current boundaries. It's an official CEC petition.

To read and perhaps sign go here (until 10th May):

Regarding the parking regulations around Leith Walk we are getting some momentum and we need to keep the ball rolling.

If anyone would like to help us keeping the pressure on, you can write to the Traffic Orders and Project Development Officer (PM me for details)

We're not on the periphery of a CPZ, or in one, but we're right handy for quick buses along London Road into town and certainly the streets get used as a park and ride facility. Off-peak, there's generally always at least 1 or 2 free spaces in our fairly small street.

We'd be in it. I'd vote for it, particularly if it involved clarification of which bits of road are considered officially parkable and which (usually the bits directly opposite or on bends or on footways) are not. I assume there'd be a sudden rash of people converting their front gardens to driveways like our neighbours did two years ago.
Lochend Drive is outside the proposed zone, so maybe they could fit in an extra layer on the footway by parking closer to the hedges, or go end-on.

Agree that anti-social parking is a huge issue. Presumably controlling parking encourages more enforcement?

I'm on the edge of the CPZ, just beyond it. Definitely commuters parking up in my street to avoid having to pay.

I'll be voting in favour of the proposal!

I think Leith would benefit less from a CPZ patrolled by wardens to ensure "revenue enforcement", and more from some better attention by wardens to enforce existing issued of double / antisocial parking.

Are the existing fringes in Morningside or Cameron toll 'problem areas'? I have no knowedge of them in that regard. They're a lot more than 15 minutes walk to major employment centres

The community council argued that extending the CPZ to cover the problematic area just pushes the problem down the road (and I believe it too).
Maybe extending it all the way to Leith it's too much?

Living on the exact edge of the CPZ it's a daily disaster.

I calculated it before, the rest of the CPZ boundary is twice as far from the city centre as we are making 'park and walk' from the Leith Walk area a very real option for New Town office workers.

Leith is probably one of the few areas of town where car ownership is low enough that controlled parking isn't a necessity.

It is the intention of Leith Central Community Council at its meeting of 19 September 2016 to discuss whether it wishes to call upon the City of Edinburgh Council to introduce controlled parking to the whole of Leith.
In this case, the whole of Leith was clarified as being Leith Ward 13 & Leith Walk Ward 12, the same area as Leith Neighbourhood Partnership. A map can be viewed here.

There are two petitions from the same person: one pro and one anti, to gauge opinion. So far the anti petition has the most signatures.
