Just back from Ayr. My sister who Has good knowledge of the council estimates that the segregated path was doubtless in a plan that the councillors approved, either without looking at detail or they have subsequently forgotten they had agreed this. Though no consultation with the locals. The blue stretches are signalling where someone needs to get into their drive, the floating bus stops looked good. The cemetery across the road has a car park but people don't use it and park on the other side of the road (no yellow lines) which then blocks the street. This could be rectified by a sign saying use car park and double yellows. Apparently craigie college students all drive to this street and park for free crossing the river to the university.

Work strts to rip it out on Monday. As I have often said in he past feckin' Ayr.

We will reflect and learn because, frankly, without segregated, coherent, attractive and direct cycle routes, we can’t unlock the clean, green and healthy transport we need.

Vision and leadership in times like these go a long way, this will be vital as we progress the successful Community Link Plus scheme in Glasgow and other schemes around Scotland.

It gave drivers the impression that they DID NOT OWN THE ROAD. And we can't be having that. We can't let these cyclists come over here, taking OUR roads, wasting OUR money on cycle paths that NOBODY uses anyway. It's time to TAKE BACK CONTROL of OUR roads.

How do we change this? What do we do? What can we do? Can we don anything? Are we always going to be a minority? Is there any way to get people to see that things can't go on as they are? What was wrong with the lane anyway? What had it changed for people driving along that road? Did they have to do anything differently? was there any less space?

It just seems such a bizarre waste of money to rip it out because cyclists.

Responses from councillors suggest they see cycling as a leisure pursuit. Catering to it means meandering paths through woods and streams going nowhere in particular.

Oh but cyclist are being taken into account. In the sense that they'll now be able to enjoy the freedom of an A road where speeding motorists can beep at them, subject them to close passes, and intimidate them out of the way. You know, the way it should be? The status quo? The way motorists want it? #CommonSensePrevails as Ms Wilson would say.

Exactly. Such an odd statement. So there was a road and pavement and no cycle lane. Which means walkers and motorists were being catered for only. Then they put in cycling infra, lo and behold, all three are catered for. Then they take away the infra, and we're back to only two being catered for.

Much as I'm not much of a fan of the SNP these days, quoting the Express for 'factual analysis', and not agenda-driven hyperbole and shameless lies ranks up there with believing what you read in the Daily Wail.

Until they actually correctly predict that new ice age of course. One year they may get it right, and if it matches their predictions then hell will indeed have frozen over.

I would suggest that much of the anti-SNP sentiment is as riddled with bias and 'believing what you want to believe' as the SNP fanatics themselves.

There seems to be some belief out there that because we think this cycle lane should be removed I (we) are anti-cycle - we are not. Cycle lanes are a must - but it doesn't have to be either or ! Both can live in harmony.....

Just because they are against the cycle lane doesn't mean they are against cycling they are not driving walking and cycling is all great.

Or SNP scrap cycling in Scotland?

Not been near Cragie since the late '80s when my mum was at meetings there. I was at the caravan site in '96.

Is there a lot of traffic in the park? I don't remember it being busy.

I assume this lane was to marry up with the one going out to Coylton. A guy I went to school with was killed on that road near Sundrum and then, years later, so was his son.

We used to go though the cemetery or Forehill Rd more than Holmston Rd because school friends stayed in Masonhill. Holmston Rd never bothered me I just didn't have much cause to use it.

If they were going to change something then Burns Statue Sq could do with a look at. They've improved the layout a little since I was at school. I don't think you can come out of the cinema car park and go straight in front of the station anymore. That caught me out a few times.

There is also a build out or bollards near Rozelle park on a very shaded bit of the road. In the summer the tree cover makes it hard to spot. Cutting down the trees isn't likely to be popular of course.

There is a riverside path yes, it does go into the town centre too (gravelly and poorly lit). Was thinking more of the campus itself (behind the building away from the river) which was mostly roads and parking lots.
