@wingpig - mention it to the sprayers in advance. They can mask them off or ream the paint off/out afters.

What are the preferred methods of bunging up holes and protecting threaded bits when depositing frames for strip/respray? Leaving sacrificial bolts in all the bosses ought to work, but what about the large unthreaded holes?

My mate at school used to strip old frames by chaining them to the end of a groyne at low tide and waiting a month before he retrieved them. Probably not recommended due to salt ingress long-term but in retrospect showed real ingenuity.

I've had 2 frames done by Hendersons at Piershill. The guy is lovely, but their organisation and customer service skills are somewhat ramshackle. It can take as long as it takes them. Depends on the backlog of giant Victorian radiators from New Town townhouse renovations they have to get through. Last time I was there it was a job lot of mountain bike frames from China that a hire place in the Highlands was getting done that held things up.

But, they do strip it down and spray it well. The paint is a good cover and tough to boot. £10 for a stock colour (= anything they've got lying around on the shelves from older jobs) plus £60 for labour = £70 for a strip and spray. Or pay whatever you want for the fancy colour of your choice.

Shand do powdercoating.
Gamma must have a supply chain too.
Hendersons of course are the known place.

A pal had his frame blasted and resprayed about a year ago. A really nice job, but they were a bit rubbish at keeping him informed or keeping to the timetable!

IIRC it was about £40, because he chose a stock colour. Think it was going to be about £60 for a custom colour.

Edit: sorry, Hendersons at Piershill

There is going to be a new framepainter in Edinburgh in the next couple of months.

The aim is quality rather than budget.

@DaveC

It was £35 a colour for paint last time. Customer service rubbish, work excellent.

Scratch this, I've found this place:

http://www.hendersonsmetalcleaning.co.uk/pages/bicycles.php

I think I'll give them a phone and see what they cost. Someone on Singletrack frum said they paid ~£70 around 6 years ago.

I think the go-to place is Henderson's Metal Cleaning.

On the west side, the powdercoater that Ben Kinetics uses is really good.

Anyone know any resprayers in Edinburgh, or Fife? I am thinking of stripping the Cotic and rebuilding as an out and out CX bike. While its bare I wouldn't mind having it resprayed. Its a little rusty in a couple of places and also the paintwork is dull and a little scratched here and there.

I know Kaputnik said something a few years ago about a place in Leith? Anyone got experience and any ideas what it might cost?

Cheers, Dav eC
