@shuggiet, I know the path as I come from Lochwinnoch originally.

Good commute

Was down in Ayr on Saturday to vist the old ma.

My son came too and we went for a walk down to the beach when the chat turned to recliner chairs

Not long as was blowing about 70mph SW. such that a ship was struggling to go down the Clyde. We talked to a young cyclist locking her bike to the side of one of the wee shelters. She had cycled from Glasgow. I feel that would have been a tough ride.

Yeah agree. NCN7 is terrific. The Erskine bridge accesses could be improved though (but I haven't been there in a decade, so maybe it's changed?)

I've had the fun of doing a regular commute over the past year from Troon to Glasgow Queen Street. I use the NCN7 that goes through Irvine, Kilwinning, Lochwinnoch, Johnstone, Paisley to Glasgow.

I've done it about 15 times over the last year. Yesterday was a new highlight. Over the roughly 50 miles I got passed by just 2 cars from Troon to Queen Street Station. The most over those 15 times was 10 cars.

It's all tarmac, passes beaches, lochs, rivers and parks. It's mostly old railway tracks, really quiet roads, or Sustrans wiggly routes through Kilwinning ,Johnstone and Glasgow. It's mostly flat with a couple of short hills. The busiest bit is Barrhead Road in Elderslie for about 200m.

Overall really enjoyable and relaxing.

Have you tryied CityCyclingGlasgow?

Please don't cycle up the B7076 from Greta, its quiet, fast and not so bad a surface in parts, but its truly sole distroying!

Route7. I followed it from Carlisle all the way through Dumfries & up the Ayrshire coast. It is a nice route, and considering it takes you all the way into Glasgow it is very pleasant. You have to like NEPN type cycles paths at the end.

Well, apart from being very wet, that was a very pleaseant ride. Tail wind helped. Much like riding the NEPN albeit for 20 miles or so. Some of the more rural bits further out of Glasgow were lovely.

No mean city has been gentrified. I did Glasgow Edinburgh Sustrans without incident, some motorbikes but they stopped about half way through. Had big pal with me,

I have cycled the canal route a few times with no incident. On my own.

Probably be ok approaching Glasgow from the south, maybe some glass on paths etc,

I'm thinking of doing Carlisle -Glasgow on the NCN route. The only thing putting me off is that the entry into Glasgow looks a bit of a tangle of cycle paths through some dodgy areas. Anyone done this route and care to share? Is navigation/safety ok?
