Thanks for alerting me to the fact that city council had initially backed this campaign. It is not now doing so.

As I opined on Twyttar earlier, this is total victim blaming. The real danger is drivers who overtake cyclists then turn across their path. Happened to me twice this week alone...

Just remember - when Governments (of all political persuasions and nations) claim record amounts of spending on cycling - this is what some of that cash is being spent on. An advert fundamentally saying:

"Cyclists - stop flinging yourself under the wheels of HGVs!"

It's well-meaning I suppose, but it does appear to both glamourise our deaths and to suggest that we sould keep out of the line of gunfire rather than stop the shooting.

How on earth did this ever get signed off? I completely agree with Sally - it seems the point of the film is to advise against cycling furiously up the inside of lorries while moving, which hardly ever happens - it's absurd. If it had been a film to demonstrate graphically the dangers of filtering up the inside of stationary left-turning lorries, then perhaps I at least would have understood. The whole thing is reprehensible.

I find it confusing the way the cowboy cuts in the first time I sore it with the piano falling I assumed it was advertising before it started. I think would be better if was no clips just someone cycling then getting crushed by the lorry. It looks like a student project with too many gimmicks used. The music suggests something is going to happen, it would better if someone was cycling along with the beachboys playing and the accident creates a shock.

Quite apart from the fact that it's not that clear what is going on - seriously, how many cyclists actually undertake moving lorries like that? The only time I ever see cyclists risk getting left hooked is when lorries are stopped in traffic and they move up the inside (to get to the nice ASL someone's helpfully painted in the lorry's blind spot, but that's a matter for another day). So if you're going to target any unsafe behaviour, target the one that actually happens

I think it's clear that the truck overtakes before turning..but

how did we ever get to the point where it is considered acceptable or an excuse for any driver making a turn to do so without being able to see what they are turning across?

Is the message if anyone overtakes you then as a cyclist you must hang back just in case they are a muppet. A guy in a car done that to me on Saturday and had the cheek to toot at me instead of waiting behind me. I must confess to verbally pointing out his driving skills!

I suppose I can sort of see what they are trying to do. Reading posts on this forum about today's bad cycling and experiencing appalling driving while cycling I think there's a case to be made for trying to fill the imagination gap that some people have regarding the potential outcomes of their behaviour.

The video is terrible, there isn't enough of the interaction to judge whether the cyclist is 'going up the inside', or the lorry is 'overtaking and left hooking'.

One is muppetry, the other is murder...

Utterly shocking. Looks like the lorry is overtaking the cyclist and turning regardless. Basically the message seems to be, if you squish a person on a bike it is their own fault. They should get out of the way! ( though how is not entirely clear ).

Basically blames cyclists for getting left-hooked by a lorry which *appears* to be overtaking the cyclist and then immediately turning left without slowing (it's hard to tell with the jumpy editing).

Actually they've got one thing right - if a lorry does do that to you, you've got about as much chance of avoiding it as you do avoiding a piano falling from the sky.
