also driver uses phone to film the cylcists who are not breaking the law whereas he is breaking the law.

My friend lives in Richmond and cycles through the park to Roehampton.

I know the bus route just now from Richmond to Ham is very very disrupted by ingoing road inprovement work.

We cycled from his house through the park and came out at Kingston which has functional cycle lanes then on down to East Molsey/Hampton Court to watch cycling at Olympics 2012. No one abused us. Roads were shut all the way back so we cycled on them.

Some comments being made that it provides a route to park for kids etc but clearly isn't suitable a through route. What comes to mind is a painted lane on the road like on Buccleuth Street to make that clear - but (probably evidence-based) scepticism about that in the comments too.

Alternative answer: that video shows that "drivers" haven't behaved sufficiently well to be allowed onto that road and, as that comment says, they should use the A road provided for them and have through-access removed. If users complain, tell them that if mean vehicle speeds on adjacent side streets and the A-roads remain within a reasonable limit (ha!) then replacing access could be considered.

I think that what the campaigners are saying is that the lane is worse than useless:

- it is rubbish so no (or very few) cyclists use it
- it doesn't really make the cyclists who do use it any safer
- it causes those cyclists who don't use it to be abused by drivers who think they should be using it

The answer has been made clear to them:

Or prevent through-traffic. It is a park after all.

From the comments:

Most of the traffic on Priory Ln is actually coming from Clarence Ln, to avoid Roehampton Ln. Great big queue every day, squeezing through the width barriers at the bottom.

As Andrew Cudd is of Wimbledon, that's exactly what he would have been doing, drive around the A3 and then rat run along Priory Ln rather than use the A306/Roehampton Ln, the main A road [altogether now] "that has been provided for him".

looking at ways to improve safety on Priory Lane ... "This would include widening the carriageway and installing additional safety features to reduce vehicle speeds."

Seems a bit of a mish-mash. Widening the carriageway will encourage increased vehicle speeds.

The answer has been made clear to them: make a continuous cycle path, not a dozen short paths separate by side roads where cyclists do not have priority.

Reading the article, are they (the campaigners) not saying the lane should be improved and action should be taken against abusive drivers?
