"Question is, will the banned lorries end up somewhere else in the country? Or somewhere else in the world, for that matter?"

Aye, they'll be snapped on the used vehicle market up by canny Scottish hauliers looking to save a few bob. :-(

Based on the stats quoted in the story, per mile driven, lorries are 29 times as likely to kill a cyclist than other traffic.

And that 29 isn't a constant, it's an average.

One could assume that the difference between a category 0 and a category 5 could be 3 or 4 times.

In which case, it's possible category 0 lorries could be 80+ times more likely to kill than other traffic.

Totally unacceptable - especially given how long lorries with sensors have been available.

Yeah, but won't you think of the poor lorries?
Quote: "But the Road Haulage Association's chief executive Richard Burnett believes the proposal is an "imposition of unnecessary rules on haulage firms".

"He said: "Demonising lorries is unfair. Lorries, including construction vehicles, play a vital part in the economic life of London. Without them the capital's businesses would grind to a standstill." "

It's a good start that should force change for the better. Not sure why they need to wait 4 years though?

Question is, will the banned lorries end up somewhere else in the country? Or somewhere else in the world, for that matter?

"Khan’s plans, immediately welcomed by cycling groups, will give construction trucks and other HGVs a star-based safety rating from zero to five, based on the amount of vision the driver has.

By January 2020, those with a zero rating – primarily construction trucks with a high cab and big clearance under the wheels – will be banned. By 2024, only trucks rated three stars – “good” – or above will be allowed in the city."
