Thanks UC. We have various shopping errands still to do, so it's not too inconvenient to check them out. just thought I'd see if CCE had any clever ideas.

Fruity HP's not bad, but to my mind it's also a bit sweeter and milder than regular HP.

When I was hunting for grape nuts I called various supermarkets on the phone, it was surprisingly quick and effective. Possibly less so at this time of year.

Perhaps I'm particularly roundabout averse, since a roundabout is the only place I've ever been hit by a car, but I didn't fancy taking either the big roundabout at the bottom of Dalkeith road or the roundabout on Lady road. Things are also scarier when you don't know where you're going.

I cycled down the A7 to get there, which I thought was quite okay, and then got off to push my bike around the roundabout at the bottom (I think that was five times I had to wait for a green man).

On the way back I went via Lady road and the A701, didn't fancy the lady road roundabout, certainly didn't fancy getting in to the right hand lane on the bit going uphill, so again crossed on foot with the traffic lights. The A701 was also surprisingly nice to cycle on. Much as I like repeating the mantra 'bus lanes are not cycle infrastructure', they certainly make me a lot happier on a busy road.

Maybe none of this is the fault of Cameron Toll, but it would have been nice to a toucan across Lady road giving good access to the A701.

maybe depends which way you arrive? From Blackford or the A701 it's quite inconvenient/hostile to try to get into the car park with a bike. from the A7 it's fine.

Not a fan of the roundabout on Lady Road, but I wasn't going to hold that against the shopping centre.

It's only reliably safe to approach it if you're on the footway or go in through the back way by the burn.
I followed someone into the car park the other week when they made me feel unsafe on Lady Road.
I usually approach from Esslemont (where the light at the bottom is always red but when I'm always aggressively passed by numpties desperate to try and hit 40mph on their way downhill) or Craigmillar Park (bus lane SIDE ROAD bus lane SIDE ROAD bus lane SIDE ROAD bus la.. oh...) or Old Dalkeith Road (bus lane PARKED THING bus lane SIDE ROAD bus lane CRATERS bus.. oh...) or Peffermill Road (where no amount of primary through pinch points dissuades some morons from trying to get past and where you sometimes get to play Adventures in Ignoring Lane Markings with large heavy things).

To be honest, I've never thought Cameron Toll was bad for cycle access. You can cycle basically right up to the bike racks which are 20m from the doors. Never had a problem getting a free bike rack and never felt unsafe cycling through the car park.

I also managed to find some last night, I decided to call the customer service desk at Sainsbury's Cameron Toll and they said they had them so I rode down there. Lovely cycle ride until the last 100m, not sure how shopping centres get away with having such poor access for cyclists...

Herniston gait is definitely a nicer cycle (or tram) than costorphine. Decathlon is nearly as bad as IKEA, but without the meatballs to redeem things at the end.

If heading on canal towpath to hermiston gait then going down the hill as it flattens out there is a cut through for pedestrians and cyclists takes you to the tesco' store. Saves you going down to bottom and all the way round. Nearby attractions include decathlon, tk maxx and the tram stop. You can go back via stenhouse path and pop into beer factory for a Paolozzi
