Document is here

Am I right in thinking that this means that nobody in planning checked whether the proposed path met the appropriate guidelines for shared use paths and so a ~4m wide path was replaced by a curvy ~2m path path crammed between a high wall and a fence, which has a sharp turn and a blind corner?

I see that the fence blocking the old path is down. Seems like someone else is not happy about the new landscaping.

Planning review took place. No action for the quite reasonable reason listed below - the change was snuck in when the detailed landscape architect's drawing was submitted as a part of consent conditions.

If the council still owns the land I guess they may be able to fix this out of minor capital expenditure but there's much bigger fish to fry in the area right now.

Available on portal under '16/00558/ENCOMP' (you need to tick enforcements)

The enquiry relates to the closure of a footpath used by cyclists for access to the main Roseburn cycle route.

The footpath, whilst shown on the site plan (02) approved for the development site granted under 13/04207/FUL as being retained, is shown on subsequently submitted drawings as being closed off and landscaped over. The drawings in question were submitted in response to conditions 5 and 6 attached to the consent relating to a site plan showing before and after levels (condition 5) and a landscape plan (condition 6). As these drawings form part of the consent, it is concluded that the alteration to the footpath is in accordance with the approved drawings and therefore no breach of planning control has occurred. In view of this, it is recommended that no further action is taken and the case be closed.

I ran to work the other day and popped down this way to get to try to get along towards Haymarket Yards. I noticed that pedestrians are pushing past the fence in the top photo and using the direct route as per the original path (which is what I did). I meant to put something into fixmystreet but didn't get around to it.

You can see where the path used to carry on to the street in the seam of the tarmac of my first photo.

From the drawing kaputnik posted in the thread, it looks like the old ramp wasn't included in the planning permission at all, much less closing and turfing it.

I think this is the spot where I was thinking how nice the houses/flats at the top look from the cycle path. But I never try to go up or down the slope there because I use the Russell Road zigzags.

Can't remember if it's been mentioned either.

I don't go there often, but something seemed worse when I was there a few weeks ago compared with some months ago - perhaps the extra fence (think the old ramp was blocked off too).

It's an great example of rubbish (fairly) new and fairly ambiguous 'shared use'.

I blame the Planning Dept - but I'm sure they'd say this bit wasn't part of the planning app and that Local Team didn't do a good job of making the best of the opportunity.

Perhaps you could persuade local councillors that this would be a great alternative to cycling through Roseburn...

What on earth happened here? The old ramp has been replaced with one that is narrower and has a 90 degree blind bend onto a pavement. I've been reading here long enough to feel like I'd have seen comment on this before now but I don't remember any.

All in the name of beautification of the new £250,000 apartments? Much better for pedestrians but not if a bike takes them by surprise coming the other way.
