Key achievements already delivered

Transport Scotland funded non-motorised user infrastructure is being delivered as part of projects including A9.....

I was a motorised user of the A9 yesterday. Decent weather, school hols and nobody on the infrastructure in question. Why would anyone go near it? It's horrible.

Transport Scotland will work with delivery partners and other Scottish Government policy areas including Health, Education, and Housing to identify joint opportunities to fund better infrastructure and facilities for walking and cycling.

Key question: do they work with health and housing when they plan their dual carriageways?

Sustrans will open a dialogue with Scottish Futures Trust around coordination of funding, and where opportunities are found, evaluation of the impact.

OK I think we're done here.

So it's not even a shared aspiration any more, just a shared vision.

I mean, I have a vision of world peace, socialism for the poor instead of the rich, and restoring our environment so that nature can flourish. But, y'know...

Is that the sort of strong public consultation used for roseburn or the your they used for the James centre?

They should be abolishing of changing the TRO process as part of this rather than adding more layers of consultation.

Transport Scotland and Sustrans will develop options to include maintenance costs as a match for priority active travel routes which are not fit for purpose and are in need of upgrading, through Places for Everyone funding.

Maybe: Government will help pay to improve rubbish cycle routes, but only if LAs chip in too, especially the LAs that are basically bankrupt with crumbling roads and have their citizens paying to have their own bins emptied.

conduct strong public consultation exercises and community engagement from the very start of design and planning

Witness the posts from two years ago in this thread and compare with current position to see where strong public consultation gets you.

4. Behaviour change

Recommendation 4.1

There must be investment in behaviour change programmes for the longer term, in order to normalise walking and cycling for everyday journeys, including walking to public transport venues as part of a multi-modal journey. These should be balanced and coordinated with infrastructure and place making, media campaigns and must include enforcement of road safety and parking legislation in favour of pedestrians and cyclists.

“

Recommendation 3.2

Delivery partners must ensure they conduct strong public consultation exercises and community engagement from the very start of design and planning. This must be inclusive and representative, using appropriate and innovative techniques that enable the target population to understand the project and processes and be properly involved. This will include community groups, businesses and Police Scotland and must follow the legislation in the Fairer Scotland Duty.

Is this a Freudian typo???

“

Transport Scotland is working with partners to promote the benefits of active travel as a prescription for better health, including initiatives with Wheelness and Green Health Partnership.

“

This -

“

Action plans are being implemented that are shaped around local health priorities including tackling health inequalities, and connect with current initiatives such as Realistic Medicine, social prescribing and public health reform.

Each partnership draws on its sound knowledge of community needs, existing outdoor assets and green health activity, and adds value by identifying co-benefits. Funding support for each of the Green Health Partnerships is provided by SNH and Transport Scotland with additional support from national partners including Forestry Commission Scotland, NHS Health Scotland and sportscotland, Paths for All and TCV.
