Even if we had a society like in Amsterdam there would still be occasional deaths and injury... but on a different magnitude... and with this change of magnitude also comes a change in the accessibility of streets: so in Edinburgh kids and frail older people and people with some disabilities are driven off the roads - kept separate from the main shops and venues. In Amsterdam (clearly I'm generalising a bit) they are out and about with direct access.</p> <p>In Utrecht I saw a frail older woman walk slowly to her bike, fold her stick up, and zoom off on a bike (with a pause when she knocked the bike over and someone else helped her up with it). </p> <p>So yes - causes are the same - human nature the same - consequences MUCH more serious.
