As per Chdot's other posts looks like this has been approved (although not yet on the planning portal):

“

The development will include footpaths and cycle routes that connect to South Queensferry itself, and there will be a provision of 25 per cent affordable homes.

“

I can understand why local residents would rather the fields remain as fields. I would rather my local fields remained as fields too but Taylor Wimpey has plans for them too.

Having said that this development does seem to have been developed in a sensitive way. For instance they have avoided putting the taller buildings adjacent to existing houses. They had a lot of details on designing the site to try and encourage minimal car use and encourage walking and cycling. They are planning to retain a reasonable number of mature trees on site, including those along the old A90 which will become a cycle and walking route along the length of the site.

I'm not going to be naive enough to suggest that car use will be as low as they want though as there are no new facilities on site (other than parks) but they are doing all they can to link it to existing cycle routes on the B800, Scotstoun Avenue and NCN1.

The rep I spoke to said that they are putting fewer houses on the site than the council have ear marked it for in order to try and ensure it fits into the surrounding area. I asked about the Gate on the way to Dalmeny and he said that although it is off site they plan to upgrade the path to Dalmeny as part of off site works. They are certainly aware of the current state of the path and the access issues but it wouldn't hurt for as many people as possible to email them to remind them about it.

"

One long term local resident, who asked not to be named, said: “The nearby Cala/Barratt development of 500 homes currently under construction has been ongoing for over two years and the volume of traffic, noise and dust from the site has impacted on many nearby residents and is still ongoing.

“To create another development with a similar scale within the same locale would mean many more years of disruption to what was once a fairly quiet area once (now departed firm) Agilent downsized its workforce before leaving South Queensferry”.

South Queensferry Community Council has warned any residents who may decide to oppose the scheme that any comments or representations made to Taylor Wimpey at the exhibition event wouldn’t count as representations against the plans.

ac - have you got anywhere in finding out who's responsible for the fence / boulders / high kerb + mud nonsense at the Dalmeny end ?

have long thought there's a grudgey anti-cyclist bod in the mix there

It's Taylor Wimpey's turn next to build hundreds of houses in the South Queensferry. Essentially filling all the green fields between South Queensferry and Dalmeny.

They are holding a public consultation event on Tuesday 15 November, 2016 from 4pm-8pm at South Queensferry Community Centre, School Lane, Kirkliston Road, South Queensferry. So perfect for as many as possible to drop by on their commute home.

Their website is: https://www.taylorwimpey.co.uk/proposed-developments/scotland/city-of-edinburgh/south-queensferry/south-scotstoun although it only contains some very small images and general phrases. The "Connected foot and cycle network" could have potential if it entails more than shared use pavements though.
