ROLLO at top of Broughton Street, new venue expanding from Stockbridge serves both italian and thai although it's a contemporary place. Great food and great service.

The Taste of Italy, on the corner of Leith Walk & London Rd. Unfailing great.

can't book though.

It's a bit more of a walk but Jamie's Italian at the Assembly Rooms has been very nice the times I've been.

The Sicilian Restaurant served up one of the worst restaurant meals I've ever had on my one visit to it. Equally, I know people who swear by it. Not sure it's date venue material.

The Sicilian Restaurant is small and romantic the waiter will be able to listen in so your date will make more of an effort. Giuliano by the shore is nice its also a bit cheaper than the one up the walk you can get a main course for £8 ( pizza with nothing on) and it has a nice traditional feel with tables clothes and surly and sarcastic waiters unlike say La Favorita Restaurant where the waiters are annoyingly sycophant/ servile

If you don’t buy any starters and if don’t drink or tip you could pay less than 20 quid.

Dusit thai in Thistle Street is really good - not too far from Broughton, as it is near the St Andrew Square end.

Phuket Pavilion is nice, I'd recommend the Thai red curry duck.
