Both had blind spots where their vision was obscured by other traffic.</p> <p>The car should have made the turn, very slowly, edging forward until they could clearly see down the bus lane.</p> <p>The cyclist should have slowed down on approach to the junction. It's particularly egregious because the cyclist was filtering down a full width traffic lane and not a bike lane or gap between traffic and the gutter.</p> <p>It's in everyone's interests to avoid accidents though, even ones where you're not at fault, so the cyclist - being the only one who was actually there - might wish to personally reflect on their experience and whether they could have avoided the accident by riding more defensively at the gap in traffic.
