Yup, see my second photo above.

And if a vehicle hit that sign, could have been somebody standing on the pavement there.

I noticed yesterday that one of the signs at the top of New Street has been badly bent already. Looks like it's been struck by a vehicle.

@chdot, the new street bit has been altered to be one way for cars and two way for bikes but the rest of the streets do what they used to do. So it is too hard for some drivers for sure.

"When descending on bike take great care to notice what cars to your left are up to from market street and also what the drivers are doing on the way up from cAlton road."

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the design. Though nothing has changed for those two examples(?)

Using this every day I can see all these problems but it is so much better than going up Cranston street and indeed iit is good that it is one way for bikes. The car in photos@fountabridge is a big one and in the middle so when it gets to the top it will have to move left or smash into the bollard.

When descending on bike take great care to notice what cars to your left are up to from market street and also what the drivers are doing on the way up from cAlton road.

Should be a no entry except for cycles sign IMO

The designer is trying to be too cute with the meaning of the much less distinctive no motor vehicles sign. No Entry is used all around the tram project stuff (Princes St, Shandwick Pl) because it is immediately recognised.

Took some photos today of the new one way bit of the street.

It's 4 meters wide from kerb to kerb. Not sure if (legally) that's wide enough for a road way and cycle lane.

Watched a few vans attempting to drive in from the top. Great deal of confusion as the signs are "No Vehicles" rather than no entry.

Roadsign at top already bent.

Pavement already being used as a car park.

@edd1e_h, clearly b) on the pavement, blocking the cycle contraflow too no doubt.

I look forward to falling on my chin, losing a tooth in the process, after tripping over the resulting broken flagstones. See Picardy Place/Greenside Place/Leith Street/Calton Road for evidence of the effects on quality paving slabs of van and lorry drivers' intransigence.

I wonder where the cars and vans are going to park when they are "loading"?

Is it:

- a) On the carriageway, blocking passing traffic,

- Or b) On the pavement.

That actually looks okay.

However, I do wonder how long the wee traffic island thingy will last? One HGV/coach turning awkwardly and I reckon it'll be toast... (not that HGVs or coaches should be passing under that bridge, but they might come along Market Street).

One thing I do like is the nice wide pavements: much improved over the old ones.

I was posting in a different thread about this. Has worked fine going down.

The other night a driver tried to overtake me going up which was stupid as he went to the right and when he reached the top he was blocked by the wee island.

It is minimal but it seems to work ok.

@chdot I don't think there is much room for a segregated kerb. They may well paint a line down it and drivers in general keeping well left on way up. (Apart from emit I mentioned just there)

Show's the new 'relaxed' attitude to allowing bikes to permeate the city. ;-)

So with a small can of paint we should be able to have contraflows in lower Leamington (canal towpath diversion route) and Valleyfield St? Both these streets have become two way for bikes by common use so council can get an easy win with minor TRO perhaps.

As we steadily progress towards a more 'European' bike tolerant city there should be less need for heavyweight structure on side roads ?! (Segregated is desirable on busier roads of course.)

Of course if someone parks on the meagre mini bike markings all bets are off for a safe bike transit of this street.

Two painted cycles on the ground are all that reminds drivers that they share a one way street with a cycle route which goes in the opposite direction.

Not impressed...
