Good to see records and potential records for handcyclists. I mean 42.37 mph is faster than most people can manage on two wheeled anythings downhill never mind the level! (yeah... I know they are all super aero modified but if you've ever had a go on a handcycle you'll know what an achievemnt that is...!)

Last week @nobrakes was out with his M5 CHR and got up to 51.9mph following a 'traditional' bike.

I'm not aware of any media coverage, Ken's latest WhatsApp message tells me that his first run was 42.37mph which is already a UK record and Karen reached 39.11mph with an illegal wind so I'm sure she'll officially set a record speed soon.

Ken, another handcyclist who lives in Edinburgh, is also currently out at Battle Mountain Nevada taking part in the IHPVA land speed record attempt for handcycles with a team from the University of Liverpool.
He's got to beat the current record of 45.68mph.

The team are also going for the women's record with Karen Darke from Inverness using the same handcycle which is a much more achievable 24.85mph.

Their first rides are today!

On the hill down to the A1 past Carberry / Whitecraig on Sunday morning.

I was totally exhausted, which always makes my descents faster as I can't be bothered braking. Had a front puncture about 5 mins later as we entered Musselburgh.

Did 45.6 mph on our new Nazca Quetzal tandem on Sunday. Slower uphills with mixed ability crew but from this statistical sample of 1 it would appear to be an absolute monster descender - I had to put the brakes on to stay behind a car. Could easily have broken 50 on a hill in which I tend to top out around 47/48 on the Fuego. Was waiting for a row from the wife for going so fast but we ended up talking about the possibility of getting a Schlumpf speed drive - quality!

Somewhere on the tarmac about 5km after Tarfside. I recall it was fast, just not that fast. However I'm taking it as technology is infallible as we all know.
