Yes. The have an wheelbarrow full of cash to do a one-off infra spend, thanks to the city deal.

"A 'mini Holland' approach will be applied to the business district, transforming a car-dominated development into a people-friendly place."

Is this one being proposed as a quick win because there are no residents to consult/object?

Ideally, you'd have a connection along the A8 to Gogarburn, and an upgraded link along Broomhouse.

Indeed, Stickman. That's why my hope is for a connection the full length of the A8. As you and I know there is a strong desire for radical change to the road layout along the A8 in Corstorphine, as expressed at the Community Council.

The fact that they sight Roseburn as the start point in the Sustrans document is also significant. For a direct route, it would need to go along the main road to at least Western Corner and then down to the Jenner's Depository. If you're taking a path to Western Corner and there's a desire for more active travel options through Corstorphine from the Community Council then you might as well take it the length of the A8.

There's room before Corstorphine for a path, Corstorphine itself is de facto single carriageway for large sections and there are vast expanses of tarmac after the PC World roundabout, seeing as at the moment there is parking on both sides of the street all the way to Maybury, despite every house having a sizeable drive way.

Ideal scenario: a route along the A8 with "mini-Hollands" in Corstorphine, Craigmount, Broomhall etc.

Craigmount is almost there anyway and wouldn't need too many more road closures to completely stop rat-running. Corstorphine would be politically tougher but would be likely to show even better results as it's a shopping area.

"A 'mini Holland' approach will be applied to the business district" - why? A windswept expanse of offices which only sees signs of outdoors human life on weekday rush hours and lunchtimes. Yes, it is utterly car dominated (because EDI, 50% owned by the council, let's not forget, designed it that way) but the tram and the highly imperfect Broomhouse path have improved non-car access in the 10 years since I worked there last. You couldn't pick worse base material for MH if you tried.

I'd much prefer to see a mini-Holland on Princes/George/Queen St, or the Grassmarket for example. Y'know, somewhere people go and want to go.

Any Broomhouse path upgrade ought to include bridges over the road junctions, particularly S. Gyle Access.

I'm with Harts though. The route should really be along the A8 corridor.

So more cars and less space for cycling on Maybury Road then. For one I think I prefer the developers plans for Maybury Junction.

Found this doc - basically a 20 year forward plan on how to cope with all the extra traffic round the A8 corridor in to Edinburgh.

http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/file/8549/west_edinburgh_transport_appraisal_refresh_report_december_2016

A few cycle improvements mentioned, loads of extra road capacity, new link road to airport, widened gogar to maybury, new controlled parking zone for the gyle, new bus lane from airport to gogar, etc etc

My bet is on some kind of upgrade of the broomhouse path. Lots of space beside the tram tracks.

Why? Large sections are already single carriageway and other parts have large central reservations and parking bays, and the bottom of Clermiston road is heavily polluted. Would make perfect sense, as per Embankment in London.

"(hopefully along Glasgow/St John's)."

I find that hard to believe. More likely on the back roads, via Carrick Knowe, Corstorphine High Street, etc.

Well, I say I hadn't heard of anything, but I had heard of development of the Gyle, via TfE, but this is the first time I'd heard 'Mini Holland' and, importantly, the link from *ROSEBURN* out West (hopefully along Glasgow/St John's).
