I quite fancy it, but maybe next year as I've already signed up for South West 300 this year.

The extra 25 miles, more hills and harder logistics would make LWD significantly more of a challenge, but with a bit training (and not faffing at any stops) should be achievable.

(Training has yet to start for SW300 so could make that interesting...)

To achieve it in 24 hours means hitting a total average for that 24 hours of 21kmph. Probably quite doable for some people. Certainly easier in a group.

What time do you think you want to start - I imagine you actually want to around 6pm so you head down through the highlands in the dark to do cairngorms in the light and then avoid worst of traffic coming through Edinburgh?

Looks like they've plotted some of the route along the M90 - that should be interesting...

And a 15mph convoy of lead vehicle, peloton and support vehicle(s) using the A9 and Kessock Bridge into Inverness in peak tourist season might just attract the attention of colleagues of Hamish MacBeth

Understatement of the year contained within the advice section - "CHAMOIS CREAM OR SOME OTHER SKIN BALM MAY BE USEFUL ON YOUR BITS – USE IT BEFORE YOU GET SORE."

I think missing out the first and last sections make it vaguely doable, plus get to finish in town.

Thinking about it.

A NATO 24hr field ration pack contains 4000 kCal. Twenty four hours of moderate cycling (not sure this is moderate) would burn four of them, at about a kilo each.

I'm all for cycle adventures, but I'm also all for trying not to bother the emergency services while you're at it.

Good luck with keeping any sort of cohesion within the group on the leg from Tomintoul as the Lecht, BH1, BH2 and the Cairnwell will have people dropping off the back left, right and centre. There's a reason that Euraudax rides don't go over big hills.

Pffff, that's very ambitious. Similar pace to the Adventure Syndicate lot doing the North Coast 500 supported in 36 hours. Not as long, but more likely to suffer headwind.

Doable in theory, but not many folk that could.

"The Lang Way Doon is a 24hr cycle event that has been conceived for those looking for a challenge.

On 1st July 2017 we are aiming to set off, with a support group, to tackle approximately 330 miles from Tongue on the north coast of Scotland to Coldstream on the southern border. Scotland in a day. This might not be even be possible, but why let that stop you?…

The aim of the challenge is to raise £5k for CHAS (Children’s Hospice Association Scotland) and bring together a group of cyclists who are willing to put their endurance capacity to the test.

The event will be FREE however a suggested donation of £25 will go directly to CHAS through the event’s Just Giving page."

http://www.langwaydoon.co.uk

I'm filing under "hmm" for the moment...
