I have seen that woman on yellow GT bike before, strange how they mention the bicycle type, as child was familiar with every car plane and train type, so still notice bike type that pass me not sure if the sort of thing the typical witness may notice.

BBC now saying cyclist was northbound, which is even more appalling ( if that's possible).

@Nelly - absolutely I completely agree. I was just (probably improperly) wondering what excuse the driver could *possibly* give...

Algo, yes you are correct I got these mixed up - have edited now.

And, yes my "zero possibility of blame" assumed cyclist was not going through a red, but even that would presume driver not looking.

@IWRATS - driving on the pavement is the standard behaviour there I'm afraid....

That's a road I use all the time. The junctions of Minto Street with Blacket Avenue and Mayfield Terrace in particular can be very anxious. Southbound cyclists can easily get up to 25mph there, and the sight lines for westbound motorists encourage them to 'snout and lunge'. You want to be on the brakes and looking left at both intersections.

Blacket Avenue is also so narrow you often find cars can't pass each other at the Minto Street end

Last time I passed on foot a big black 4x4 solved the problem of having its peer coming the other way by driving with two wheels on the pavement. Outside a nursery. And it was a lady at the wheel.

@Nelly - I just duplicate posted. I hate this junction and have had very many near misses here.

The only possible reason a driver could give is if the pedestrian crossing to the north was on red, and the driver is claiming the cyclist went through red. Sorry I know one shouldn't speculate, but I'm just responding to your zero possibility claim, and you seem to be saying the cyclist was in the northbound lane, but in fact she was in the southbound lane according to the report (I think).

As I said on the other post I very much hope the cyclist will recover fully. This is what I said about that junction on the duplicate post...

I cycle west-east from Duncan Street to Blacket Avenue every weekday pretty much. It is a horrendous junction - you can't turn right into Blacket Avenue going North on Minto Street, and in my opinion you shouldn't be able to go straight on from Duncan street to Blacket Avenue either. I occasionally turn right from Blacket Avenue up Minto Street and if there are any cars going straight over from Duncan street, this is lethal. I've had so many close calls. It's pretty much the only place where if I have passengers in the trailer or on the bike, I will get off and walk to the pedestrian crossing. Blacket Avenue is also so narrow you often find cars can't pass each other at the Minto Street end. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I am very sad to hear this accident has happened exactly where I feel most vulnerable - albeit in a slightly different situation.

Not great at all.

As a driver as well as a cyclist and local to the area, I use that route fairly regularly.

I have to say, there is zero possibility of cyclist error here.

As a driver, the sightlines are excellent, and the only time that isnt the case is if something is parked in the buslane to the right (I dont think its a 24 hr buslane)

I cant see any mitigating circumstances to miss a bike from the Southbound lane either (a) as you take off from Duncan Street, or (b) as you travel across Minto Street.

What the hell were they doing, press accelerator, close eyes and hope for the best ???????

Injuries are apparently bad, but hope she recovers well.
